    Nothing tastes as sweet as what I can’t have…

    “You don’t understand…I need to do something!”

    Dr. Keller shook her head solemnly, “Ashley, this process…it’s not a quick fix…it could take months…there are considerable risks to your health as well.”

    Her voice trailed off when the smaller woman turned, facing her. “Every day I come home and a little more of her is gone. It’s like watching someone disappear…right before your eyes…she’s fading, Susan. I want to try…for her. I don’t care how much it’ll hurt or what could happen to me. This is something I need to do.”

    “Ashley, have you spoken to her about any of this?”

    “I don’t want to tell her….not until we’re absolutely sure that I’m okay.”

    Both women continued to stare at each other unblinkingly. When Ashley’s tears finally spilled, Susan looked away, sighing. Pressing a button on her intercom, she spoke softly, “Karen, please schedule Mrs. Davies for a fertility evaluation as soon as possible.”

    Aiden moved slowly reveling in his fingertips lightly tracing the smooth, firm flesh of his lover’s stomach. The sunlight kissed golden strands wrapped around his fingers making them glow. He smiled, staring down, green eyes melting into blue. Running his hands along tanned, lightly muscled skin, he gently lifted a leg over his shoulder. Moving closer, he captured a lip between his teeth biting as he gently entered. Aiden watched the paler flesh writhing below, slight muscles playing beautifully just under flushed skin. His body tensed as his lover arched against him straining for more contact. Fingers pushed into his hair, tugging him down.

    Aiden opened his mouth, pushing his tongue in deeper, sucking bruised, swollen lips into his kiss. Moaning, he began to thrust harder, faster as the bed’s headboard kept time. Hands were grasping now, desperately trying to find purchase along his tan, sweat slickened skin. Aiden pushed his face against the pulsing neck below him sucking hungrily as his hands caressed pert nipples, teasingly squeezing and rubbing. Perfect, white teeth punctured the skin of his shoulder. Frantically thrusting into his lover, Aiden closed his eyes shuddering as his powerful release wracked his body.

    Aiden hated this part. Lying on his side he couldn’t help but look at the shinning, golden circle on his nightstand. Behind him, sounds of running water and tuneless humming only deepened the hurt. His brow knitted as his mind raced trying to think of the word that was right on the tip of his tongue. Familiar. It was all becoming too familiar, the longing, the lust, the sex, the disappearing. Rolling the word around his mouth silently, his face twisted becoming cold, distant. Soft humming suddenly became off-key words. He smiled in spite of himself recognizing the song.

    23. i think this story is a little above my reading level…lol. i know it jumps back and forth…but im confused as tro when it does and what exactly is going on with spencer in labor…or not? oh man…im lost. but from what i do understand…i like it! lol.
