“When were you planning to tell Bette?” asked Dr. Wilson with a look of reproach, not sure how she felt about Tina having gotten pregnant without Bette’s knowledge.  It had been as a surprise, but now Tina was in this on her own and she was going to have to make the best of that situation.

            “Right about now, if everything looked like it was going to go well and nothing looked like it was going to go wrong like last time.  I didn’t think Bette could handle another miscarriage,” said Tina. 

            Obviously, Bette hadn’t been handling the first one either; Bette had handled her grief in true Bette fashion, with sex.  A long time ago, it would have been with Tina, Bette’s sexual appetite had always amazed Tina, but then, as time drew on, and they’d grown apart, Bette had stopped looking at her in that heated and sexy way.   Tina had grown complacent with their sex lives, never one to take the lead, letting Bette dictate when and where, and even how.

            “No…,” the doctor turns to Tina, seeing her suddenly there stomach, “Oh my.”

            “I just sort of… Um… popped,” said Tina, rubbing her stomach with a smirk.  “I’m not ready to tell anybody.  I want to keep it to myself for a while.”

            “Well that’s not going to be easy, my dear,” stated the surprised doctor.

            “Looks like I’m having this baby on my own…,” said Tina softly.

            “Well that’s a shame, Tina…,” admitted the doctor as she moved towards Tina.

            “Don’t say that, people do it all the time,” said Tina, her southern drawl making a rare appearance, her tone pensive.

            “And you’re ok with that?”

            “I want this baby more than ever,” stated Tina with a resolve that she’d never felt before.  It was true, she wanted the baby, not only because it had been the single most important thing to her in the last year, but also because it was someone who would never betray her.  It would love her forever and she’d never have to worry about the love of a child growing cold, like it had with Bette.
