The Trouble With Love Chapter Seventeen

“That’s right. Sometimes it scares me how well you know me. Anyway, as you quite rightly say, by that point I was already building the walls to guard myself against anymore pain and I honestly convinced myself that I was doing the right thing, for both of us. So, eventually, I got to a place where I wasn’t feeling anything at all and I can’t tell you how empty that makes you. Then I just wanted to feel anything, anything at all, andthere’s nothing I can really say that justifies any of what happened after that.”

“So how did it make you feel, getting screwed by her?” asked Tina, with a touch of venom in her voice.

“Lonely T. It made me feel lonely.”

Silence descended, while Bette tried to look anywhere in the room apart from at Tina. She knew that if she looked at the woman she loved all she would see were the scars that her affair had left on both of them. When she next heard Tina speak it was barely over a whisper.

“I would have done anything to feel nothing back then.”

    “I know.”

As Bette spoke she got up from her side of the table and took the seat that was next to Tina. Once she had sat down she gently took Tina’s hand that was resting on the table and rested it on the top of her leg, with her own hand on top, her thumb lightly stroking the back of Tina’s hand trying to soothe some of the pain away. Tina let all of this happen with no resistance, but like Bette the night before, couldn’t help but stare at their hands. Once she raised her eyes Bette took her face in her free hand, her other thumb now moving across Tina’s cheek.

    “I love you.”

“I know Bette.” smiled Tina, who was trying to fight off the tears that were threatening to appear.

Bette dropped her hand from Tina’s face and took the hand that was resting in her lap into both of hers. Bette gripped Tina’s hand a little more firmly before speaking again.

“There is no logical reason why Tina. I wish there was, then I could explain to you why, when I should have been running towards you I was running away, but if you want to know my reasons why, they all revolve around being stupid and selfish andnothing that makes me the woman you deserve.”

    1. so thats 2 nights gone… how long is bette staying there… and i also love kate… she’s good for tina… and i love that they are talking… ok i’m all caught on your story..so please continue

    2. ‘Difficult, but not impossible’ is a perfect description of the challenge of getting a “broken” relationship (with a foundation of love) back on track. It is so not necessary for them to go from one “hell” to another to find what they never truly lost. Thank you for the progression… thank you for the simplicity of affection…and most importantly, thank you for sharing.

    3. Thank you for bringing them together to see each other and talk. Each of them needs to tell the other that they never stopped loving the other and that will settle a lot with that statement. Let them continue talking positively and moving forward. Thanks for the post.

    4. They really do need to continue talking. Most likely when Tina has had more rest. She avoided Bette earlier, now she needs to simply rest and then ask the hard questions. Thanks for the update, please continue.
