The Therapist/Writer and The Tennis Player

“Yeah, but I ruined your visit. I really should call him more often.”

    “So, you’re a therapist too?”

“Not really, I’m like a substitute therapist. I’m the person they call when the therapist has too many appointments or can’t make it to the office, stuff like that. I’m really a writer, that’s my profession.”

    “Oh, I play tennis.”

“Really?” The elevator door opened and they walked in. Alice, not wanting to lose her coolness, pressed the button for the first floor. “I’ve always wanted to play tennis.”

    “Really?”

Alice let out a little chuckle. “Not really, it looks too hard. I’m not an athlete.”

“Oh, it’s not that hard. Actually, I think it’s probably the easiest sport.”

“I think the easiest sport is swimming. I’m a big swimmer. But I don’t do it to often cause I hardly get the chance.” As Alice was saying this, Dana was thinking of Alice in a wet bikini. With water dripping down herWhoa, Dana. Get a hold of yourself. You hardly know her. “But, I’ve kinda wanted to know how to play tennis.”

    “I could teach you.”

“You could? Cause if you could that’d be reallynice.”

“Yeah. Do you know where the Country Club is?”

“Yeah, they have good food there.”

“They also have pretty good courts there, too. I usually go there to train and stuff. I think the showers are too cold, though.” Alice was lost in her image of Dana in a cold shower. Hey, what thestop thinking about that! But look at that girl. Oh, stop that Alice. She’s not even interested. “I could probably get a court to teach you.”

    “You could?”

    “Sure, it’ll be no problem.”

    “Let’s see, what’s today?”

    “Tuesday.”

“Okay, I gotta a meeting today, I gotta talk to Marco tomorrow, I gotta visit Felicia Thursday. I gottaI don’t have anything to do Friday. Yeah, Friday, is a good day for me. What about you?”

    “Sure Friday’s fine. What time?”

    “I guess around three.”

“Yeah, okay Friday at three then.” The elevator door opened and they walked out. “Be sure to bring lots of padding.”

    “Why?”

“You might fall a lot, the tennis ball might hit you on your legs or arms, stuff like that.”

“Ooh, danger, sounds like fun. Well, I have a meeting in that room, so I guess I’ll see you Friday.”

    “Yeah, um, bye.”

“Bye.” Alice walked into her meeting with a smile on her face. For the first time in her life, Alice was excited to play a sport. She hated sports, but the thought of playing tennis with Dana made her anxious. “This is a first.”

Dana walked out of the building. On the way to her car, Dana felt oddly happy thinking about what might happen on Friday. Dana was hardly ever happy and so she felt a little weird. “What’s happening to me?”
