the restaurant n times – chapter eight

"Oh, it’s obvious alright.” Bette stood up. “She obviously means something to you, that you can’t even look me in the eye and just tell me." Bette moved to walk away. It was obvious Tina didn’t trust her.

"No, no, no." Tina pulled her arm to stay. "I’m sorry. Okay, I’ll tell you. I’m sorry.” Bette just stared down at her not knowing what to say or do. It hurt that Tina felt like she couldn’t speak to her about it.

    “Please Bette?” She begged.

Bette sat back down again with her arms crossed her chest.

"Remember when I told you my first was with a chef?" Tina asked her.

Bette was appalled. "Tee, you just told me–" Tina cut her off. "Bette, just do you remember?"

"Yea, I remember your first was with a chef and she worked with you and oh my god!"  Bette remembered the invitation. "Samantha Zak–Zak Hotels. Tee she owns a hotel?"

Tina nodded. "Yes. Sammy, I mean Samantha.” Tina paused and the two women sat in silence for what seemed like ages until Tina got up and sat in Bette’s lap and hugged her like she might lose her.

“Tee, baby what’s wrong?” Bette held Tina and grew more and more concerned for her lover. This woman must’ve wronged Tina terribly for her to be in this state right now.

“Tina you’re scaring me.” Bette couldn’t take the silence.  She began to rub Tina’s back to soothe her like she had always done when Tina was upset about something; however this time it only made Tina cry uncontrollably in her arms.

Tina leant back and prepared to tell Bette her secret. “Bette, Samantha’s husband is Lawrence Zak and he owns the hotel. Samantha…” Tina cried. “Bette, she’s my sister. Samantha Kennard-Zak.” Tina waited for Bette’s response.

“Oh, okay Tina.” Bette was confused. Tina had never told her about a sister and wondered why she’d keep this from her.

“Why didn’t you tell me you had a sister?”

    “It’s complicated.”

    “What do you mean?”

    There was no turning back.

“Bette, she was my first.” Tina got up off Bette’s lap and walked to the corner of the couch and leaned against the arm, turning away, shamefully for the very first time unable to look into the eyes of the love of her life.

    1. Did you really just go where crazy Ilene once did? Ridiculous. There is something seriously wrong with Tina if she considers the person who molested her her “first”. It’s like a rape victim calling her rapist one of her “lovers”.
