    Bette goes over some class assignments, and she gets a call from Tina. A long conversation gives way to another step forward.

    “Excellent,” Bette smiled, leaning off from the wall to walk back to her friend. “Goodbye Tina,” she answered, glancing up to Shane just as she closed her phone. “What?” She could see the smirk tugging at her friend’s lips.

    “Oh nothing. You just have something on your face.”

    “I do?”

    “Yeah, that lovesick smile,” Shane laughed, not even bothering to block herself from Bette’s teasing shove. “Yeah yeah. Is everything okay? Are you still gonna tear your hair out over this?”

    “Actually … she answered my problem. I understand it now.”

    “Let me get this right. She just called you? … And answered a problem she didn’t know existed?”

    Bette nodded and shrugged at the same time. “I don’t get it either.”

    “That’s some freaky shit,” Shane chuckled as Bette got up to leave. “Excuse my language. It’s just … that girl. I don’t know, whatever you two have, it’s crazy. I’m jealous. That’s all I can say.”

    “I think it’s just her,” Bette said dreamily, slipping her cell phone back into her pocket.

    “Was it her that put that cell phone back into your pocket, too?”

    Bette looked down and rolled her eyes. “Shane.”

    “The cell phone that had all that baggage attached to it – something Helena basically forbid you to use again because she’s a controlling witch? … That’s all Tina, hey? Wow, she must have some crazy power …”

    “I know what you’re doing,” Bette smiled, growing serious again. “And I’d like you never to mention these things to Tina, you know … I’ll tell her all of my twisted stories some day on my own. I’m serious, Shane.”

    “So am I,” Shane chuckled, “I’m just … really happy for you, Bette. You deserve a girl like this. I couldn’t have asked for a better girl – and cuter.”

    “How do you know? …”

    “I watched her that night you got piss drunk. Remember? When I called her over? Well, I wasn’t just gonna throw you at the mercy of another crazy person, so I had to check her out.”

    “You didn’t!” Bette laughed, suddenly understanding. “You watched us through the window?!”

    “Laugh all you want, but you know I’m a good friend.”

    Bette rushed over and squeezed Shane with a beaming smile. “No, you’re the best friend anyone could ever ask for. I’m dead serious. I don’t know what I’d do without you, Shane.”
