The Dying of the Light Part 7
“If that’s what you want Bette.” Kit was secretly happy for the way in which Bette stood up for herself. “Are you ready?”
Bette nodded quietly, feeling drained like she had run a marathon. She didn’t have the emotional where with all to continue arguing with Kit, so she hoped that she wouldn’t question her anymore. She just wanted to go back to Helena’s and watch the beach from the Conservatory. It was so beautiful.
She imagined the sand, its fine coarseness rubbing against her bare feet, exfoliating her skin. The salt of the water, clinging to the wind, generating a thirst as she tastes it at the back of her tongue. Rejuvenating her body even before she can enter the water.
The cool, deep blue water is always so inviting. Cleansing by its mere existence, it would regenerate her… clean away her darkness, the death that sticks to her body.
She couldn’t taint that beauty, and that’s why should could only gaze through the window, and remember a lifetime ago.
**********
Tina had barely slept in over 36 hours, she kept on seeing the look on Bette’s face when she took Angelica off her that last time. She had never seen Bette look more broken, or more alone. She looked like a child who was told that Mummy didn’t love her. It occurred to Tina that that was Bette, a child who was looking for approval from anywhere that she could.
Looking for attention and love. Something which she was lacking in her formative years, with Melvin travelling the country and Kit too caught up in the allure of sex, drugs and rock ‘n’ roll. And a mother who was gone.
It seemed that in some way people were always leaving Bette, and Tina wondered when she and Angelica became a statistic to prove that point.
**********
Helena had a meeting to attend which left Bette home alone, even though she was made to promise to call someone if I felt I needed anything.
Bette didn’t need anything that anyone could offer her from the other end of a phone. There was nothing to ask for that would get her what she wanted or needed. She was starting to become okay with that, the pain was receding to a steady numbness during the day, unless someone danced on the nerve. Thankfully she had friends that rarely intentionally did that.

Rveryone seems to think its Tinas fault that Bette went to pieces, HER insurity has a lot to do with that. She had Tina served with full custody of Angie.when Tina told her she and Henry was going to get married henry would adopt Angie, Bette took Angie, them Tina took Angie . That was all wrong.on both party. Each one had a reason for doing this. Alice has no reason by telling Tina that she was sleeping with a man. As it started a long time before that. with Bette sleeping with Candance. Let the two of them fight their oun battles and they will do what is best for Angie. Tina was fighting for her birth child, and Bette is fighting for her child. SorryI just hate to see Tina being beat up so much .thanks
I sure hope they talk and get everything out on the table. They both have a right to be angry but it is time to let it go. pps
Hey wasnt being gripe with you didnt want to think I was being dis respectful to you, you write Alice so well,Just like she was in the show. thanks
Wow that truly is a cliffhanger there! This is an excellent story, one so full of emotion, I just hope they can work it out. Thanks for posting again, I was able to catch up, and I can’t wait for the next installment.
Hello Dee… Wow… you are still pulling so much out… each word is completely immersed in the emotions that have crafted them… I completely agree with Alice and Helena… I am no against Tina… I think she has her reasons… but there is only so much a person can take before they become irreparable… Yes Bette has made mistakes in the past… and yes she has suffered them… but during Tina’s suffering I remember Bette being there for her as much as she could… she left an important business engagement so she could be there for T… I think in this instance Bette should tell Tina to leave and that when she was ready to talk she would call her.. Bette needs to take back some control of her life… she needs to find her balance and her back bone… I love Bette and Tina together… but they both need to take responsibility for their own actions… I think Bette has suffered the most of both of them… cause she did do it alone for some long until her friends came around to seeing her true despair… Sorry for being absent my friend and well you better be back soon, JC (Latin Nephew to those Salsa Angels and the ever talented and inspiring Eunichick)
I just caught up on all you chapters. Excellent story ! So sad and emotional – like season 3 – i tried to block that season out like a train wreck waiting to happen – but i am so drawn to see how you make it work out. I can’t wait to see where this goes. PPS
OMG…there you go again with the cliffhanger. You’re getting good at that. :) Please let Tina be gentle with Bette. Can’t she see how broken she is? Can’t wait to see where this goes. PPS
What an emotional chapter! I hope they manage a good talk, and that Tina starts to see the depths of Bette’s despair. Can’t wait for more, PPS.
I am glad Tina is comming arounf. Now please do not let them fight. Thanks PPS
I am sorry i love Bette infact i don’t know what I am going to do without my yearly dose of TLW or hourly dose of tibette fanfic but all these girls keep forgetting or are justifying why Bette took Angelica in the middle of the night. I am sorry Tina has every right to be pissed, angry…usually I defend Alice wackiness, smart comments because most of the time they border some bold truth and this time is not so different but for Christ sake if you are going to burn one then burn both or just ZIP IT!!. As far as the story goes, full of strong emotion.. it is going to be one heck of a ride. PPS
