The Dying of the Light Part 21

“I’m Doctor Karen Justice, and I am the hospital’s psychiatrist.”  The woman introduced herself, not at all surprised by Bette’s lack of courtesy.  “I’ve been called in to talk with you.  Do you remember why you are here?”

The question sounded so benign, but Bette knew that once she answered it would give the woman and in.  She did not want that, she she just laid there.

“That’s okay Bette, we don’t need to talk about that now.  What we do need to discuss is your continued care when you leave the hospital.”

This peaked Bette’s interest, continued care?  For what?  “Physiotherapy right?”  She asked clearly, making sure that the woman realised she would only be discussing her physical health.

Nodding, the Doctor smiled.  “Yes, that is part of your immediate physical recovery, another doctor will discuss that with you.  I am talking about you being moved to a facility that will help you to recover from the depression you are currently suffering.”  It was more straight forward then she usually was, but Karen knew that with some people beating around the bush only heightened their anxiety.  There would be enough anxiety to deal with soon enough.

“I will not be attending any such facility.  I’ll be returning home today.”  Bette announced, anger lacing her words.

Once again smiling, the doctor explained.  “No you wont.  You have named a next of kin who will act for you if you are not capable of making decisions for yourself.  Given the events of last night, there is no one who would deem you fit enough.  Your next of kin has already signed you into the facility.”

“NO!”  Bette yelled, sitting up on the bed and starting to tug at the wires she was connected to.  “That is not your, not Kit’s decision to make.  I can make my own choices, I don’t need your permission for them.”  She started to pull at the IV when two nurses ran into the room to hold her down, quickly followed by Kit.

Bette saw Kit enter, and yelled at her “It’s not your choice Kit.  Don’t do this.  Don’t do this.  I hate you.”  She yelled while she was being restrained; the doctor simultaneously ordering a sedative.

Approaching the bed, Kit whispered.  “Baby Girl, it’s for the best.  I have no choice.”

She needs to come to terns with Why and how not to do it again, and that each person in her life are in the dark place and for them to all recover, she needs to do the same. Her friends needs Bette Porter in their life for a long time most of all Angie needs Bette as well as Bette needs her.

    2. thank you thank you thank you for sharing this tragically beautiful story! how I have missed your writing. You have such a powerful way of weaving words together. Beauty rises out of pain at times and this story is certainly a wonderful example of that

    3. Oh My Beautiful Dee… I have missed you so much… but I understand… but this… this right here… its like darkness consuming… all the light is gone… and we are left in shadows of desperation… of heartache… and my heartaches… there is so much love here… and yet we can see that love is the light at the end of the tunnel… its the quiet dying light that twinkles with hope… so much to say so so much… but I will leave you with this last bit, Love and Hugs, Always and Forever My Most Entrancing Friend… I am with you forever… JC, (Your Latin Nephew to those Salsa Angels and the ever loving Cuzzie to the ever talented Eunichick, the sweetest of the sweets patpez and Personal Fanner to the Incredibly Talent Deean)

    4. I was worried you wouldn’t bring this one back. So glad you did, although it is at times a painful read, you write it so well. I can feel the pain each one of them is suffering. I so hope they will all be able to come back from this great and be able to put their lives back together again. I’m also hoping Tina and Angie will be able to see Bette soon. Maybe that will be the push she needs to help herself out of this depression. PPS this is too good to let go.

    5. Gosh, this is so painful to read and watch but necessary nevertheless. At some point, I hope Bette willallow Tina to be near her and let Tina bring the baby and to hear that she really does love her and had intended for her to see the baby and to have custody of her. These are the most important things that Bette needs to hear in order to get well. I know it is a lot for her to take but she must if she is to get well. Hope that Kit will continue too try to see her when the doctors says its alright to do so.PPS Painful but a mst necessary part of the story.

    6. What an incredible chapter. This story is so painful to read, but so beautiful too. I hope Bette finds a way to realize her importance in Angies life. Thanks for continuing this story, I can’t imagine how hard it must be to write.

    7. This chapter was dark and painful but I am ever hopeful that Bette they will all pull themselves up and out of this blackness. Thank you for sharing this wonderful story and bringing it back to us. pps

    8. Hi, sweet Deean, welcome back! It’s too soon to realize how Bette is going to react. She needs to analize the ordeal she went through and try to accept the help needed. As for Helena, she really could use some support from her friends. She still has the trauma of seeing Bette’s blood. Tina, for the first time in years, is thinking of someone else, instead of being focused on herself. Awsome update, dear friend. PPS Hugs & kisses on both your cheeks – Lucero & Marsha (Proud Salsa Aunties to the ever loving JC and Eunichick and Tias Adoradas to Patpez)
