The Dying of the Light Part 21
Blinking, trying to clear her eyes of the fog, she turned her head. First thing she noticed was a solid form slumped in the chair by her bed.
“What the?” She cried, brokenly, her throat dry and scratched. Jumping slightly, she pulled her arms up to defend herself.
Being woken from her light slumber, Kit jumped up from the chair and gently started to lower Bette’s arms. “It’s alright baby girl. It’s okay.” She repeated until she saw the fear leave Bette’s eyes.
“Where am I?” Bette tried to ask, but the question could barely pass her parched lips.
Luckily Kit understood what Bette was asking, remembering a time in years past when they were both very young, and Bette had been ill for most of Spring with bronchitis.
“You’re in the hospital honey.” Kit answered, unsure of what else she should say. She really wanted to question Bette on how she was feeling, what lead her to try and… and… what lead her to cut herself.
There were so many questions to ask, but right now she wasn’t even sure that Bette knew why she was in hospital, so questioning her over her emotional rationale on attempting to end her life wouldn’t be the smartest thing.
Right?
Bette felt herself relax, she was glad she didn’t have to wake up alone in the hospital. Nodding her head at Kit to let her know that she was heard, Bette laid her head back down on the pillow. Closing her eyes she tried to remember why she was there.
Helena slowly made her way into the guest room, scared to be reminded of the moments that took place hours ago within these walls. Of seeing Bette laying there, her face drained of all colour, and blood sluggishly pumping from her body from self-inflected wounds.
She could remember the sensations of Bette becoming colder, her breathing more shallow. Helena sat, holding her, her own hands trying to stem the flow of blood from so many different wounds.
There was so much blood, Helena didn’t know you could loose so much blood and live. Closing her eyes, she stands at the door – but she almost didn’t.
That thought almost sent her to the floor, but she quickly braced herself against the jam, her hands wrapping around the door. Opening her eyes, she looked into the messy room. There was plastic left on the floor, presumably from the bandages and other instruments the paramedics had to use to save Bette’s life. That’d only take a minute to clean.

thank you thank you thank you for sharing this tragically beautiful story! how I have missed your writing. You have such a powerful way of weaving words together. Beauty rises out of pain at times and this story is certainly a wonderful example of that
Oh My Beautiful Dee… I have missed you so much… but I understand… but this… this right here… its like darkness consuming… all the light is gone… and we are left in shadows of desperation… of heartache… and my heartaches… there is so much love here… and yet we can see that love is the light at the end of the tunnel… its the quiet dying light that twinkles with hope… so much to say so so much… but I will leave you with this last bit, Love and Hugs, Always and Forever My Most Entrancing Friend… I am with you forever… JC, (Your Latin Nephew to those Salsa Angels and the ever loving Cuzzie to the ever talented Eunichick, the sweetest of the sweets patpez and Personal Fanner to the Incredibly Talent Deean)
I was worried you wouldn’t bring this one back. So glad you did, although it is at times a painful read, you write it so well. I can feel the pain each one of them is suffering. I so hope they will all be able to come back from this great and be able to put their lives back together again. I’m also hoping Tina and Angie will be able to see Bette soon. Maybe that will be the push she needs to help herself out of this depression. PPS this is too good to let go.
Gosh, this is so painful to read and watch but necessary nevertheless. At some point, I hope Bette willallow Tina to be near her and let Tina bring the baby and to hear that she really does love her and had intended for her to see the baby and to have custody of her. These are the most important things that Bette needs to hear in order to get well. I know it is a lot for her to take but she must if she is to get well. Hope that Kit will continue too try to see her when the doctors says its alright to do so.PPS Painful but a mst necessary part of the story.
so emotional!! bette needs to understand what she did and why she did it! :)PPS
What an incredible chapter. This story is so painful to read, but so beautiful too. I hope Bette finds a way to realize her importance in Angies life. Thanks for continuing this story, I can’t imagine how hard it must be to write.
This chapter was dark and painful but I am ever hopeful that Bette they will all pull themselves up and out of this blackness. Thank you for sharing this wonderful story and bringing it back to us. pps
Hi, sweet Deean, welcome back! It’s too soon to realize how Bette is going to react. She needs to analize the ordeal she went through and try to accept the help needed. As for Helena, she really could use some support from her friends. She still has the trauma of seeing Bette’s blood. Tina, for the first time in years, is thinking of someone else, instead of being focused on herself. Awsome update, dear friend. PPS Hugs & kisses on both your cheeks – Lucero & Marsha (Proud Salsa Aunties to the ever loving JC and Eunichick and Tias Adoradas to Patpez)
