Put it up to your ear…what do you hear? Chapter 11
"It’s okay Tina."
"What?" She asked, confused.
"The whole breaking my heart thing. It’s okay now."
"Oh Dave. I am so sorry."
"I know you are. I remember the pain in your eyes too. That’s what made it so hard at the time…watching on the sidelines as you made this drastic decision. And, when I would ask why, it hurt more knowing that you were tearing us apart without knowing the answer."
"I still don’t."
There was silence again.
"Everything happens for a reason Tina. As much as your leaving hurt…and it hurt a lot for a long time…it was the right thing for us both in the end."
"You think?"
"I know. Listen, if you and I had stayed together, and then married I would have ruined it for us."
"What?" Tina asked, totally surprised by that statement.
"Tina, we were young…most definitely in love…but, we were young. At least, I was young."
"Yes, we were in love," Tina whispered into the phone.
"And young Tina. Don’t forget that part."
"Why do you think you would have ruined it?"
"Fame, immaturity, fortune…immaturity…uh…" Dave let out a self-depreciating laugh. "Did I mention immaturity?"
"Oh…" Tina let out her breath in surprise.
Softening his voice, Dave said, "Tina, the attention I received in collage for being a popular football player was nothing like what happens when we are out on the road." Dave shook his head. "As a professional football player…especially one who everyone thinks will be in the Hall of Fame before your career has even started….well, you are instantly treated like a king, and all of a sudden anything and everything you desire is made available to you. And, I mean everything Tina."
Letting out a deep sigh, Dave continued. "I wasn’t prepared for it. Although I don’t know how anyone could be. It was overwhelming Tina…overwhelming. And, I know myself well enough to admit to you that no matter how happy I was with you…I would have let…did let…my ego and my dick feast upon the spoils that were constantly laid before me."
"Wow." Tina was blown away by Dave’s confession, never thinking once that he would have cheated on her.
"Yeah…wow." Dave ran his fingers through his hair. "I know I can excuse some of my behavior because of my broken heart, but I would be lying if I said it was all because of that. It wasn’t…I was simply out of control…like a big kid in a super mall where every store sells a different kind of candy…and for me, it was all free."

That’s good that some wounds have healed over time. And now it’s time for Ms. Tina to make that exchange. This really is a cute story! =)

Hey Sea!! This is really sweet! I am so happy to hear that the wounds had healed. I know how she must have felt. Please continue soon. I hope you feel better. Canadian Thanksgiving in October, huh? Cool!!
Way to go Tina. Make that exchange with Bette and fight for her. Glad to see you back and continuing this story.
So good to see a post from you. : )
AH! SO cute! Sounds like a fair exchange to me: guidance via giggle for a love to end all loves? I think so.
Glad to see you back…now when she picked up that phone, you know I was thinking she was calling Bette. If she has to call old ghosts to get to Bette so be it…just as long as she gets there…maybe some time needed to pass. Please post soon and I hope you feel better.
Glad to see that you’ve posted Sea. You’re a hell of a writer that I’ve missed. Feel better.

Sorry you’re sick and missing the feast. Always glad to see an update on this one. Now let’s see them swap. Seashells, earrings, spit, etc.

Sorry you aren’t feeling well and missed your holiday. so glad to see the update. Go for it Tina, you’ve got the shell no go get Bette.
Yeah Tina go get your woman and tell her about the shell. Ok post soon please, thanks!
Hope your cold is clearing up! Maybe some hot turkey soup? (Do Canadians eat turkey at Thanksgiving???) Even fuzzy-headed your prose is clear as a bell! Thanks!
Hey Sea…. I thought Fuzzy wazzy was a bear??? Fuzzy or not wonderful and can’t wait for your next post. Hope you are feeling better!! Take care!!! thank you
Amazing!!! Surely this exchange is gonna be the start of B&T. Or better say the fire ignition, cause it seems to me that B&T started the day Tiny Tina found that shell… Bette is gonna be so stunned! … getting her shell back after all these years! And from her T! Can’t wait to read that… Please, please no drama around the exchange, we had enough of that! Please post soon, I simply adore that story! Thanks
Oh Seahurst that was so much better than anything we talked about. Go Girl!!Sorry you missed all the shindig. Get better.
I hope you are feeling better and thanks for the great chapter!
Can’t wait to read what’s next! Thanks.
Oh Sea! So good to see you post again! That was a great chapter. I hope Tina does the exchange in person without any middlemen this time!
Hope you’re feeling better..thanks for giving us this update..and please don’t stay away too long :)
You’re quite the storyteller. I thought this was adorable. Sorry you missed the holiday – hope you’re feeling better soon.
cute
Ok I know this comment is late, but I finally sat down and caught up. This chapter was great. It’s funny how some of us go through life believing in something other than ourselves. True there’s nothing wrong in having, lets say a lucky charm, but when do we let go of that and start believing that we made those good things happen? Tina’s seashell reminds me of a security blanket. At some point in our life’s we have to take responsibility for our actions and right now that’s what Tina is about to do. Hopefully. So go get your woman Tina. Please Post Soon.
I can’t wait to read the look on Bette’s face when she gets reunited with the shell… OMG sea… what a wonderfull story!
