    Purest of Pain (Chpt. 5)

‘She told me she loved me.’

Old school Porter. Whatever the problem, tell a girl you love them and suddenly everything’s okay again. How many times had Bette been forgiven, even by Alice, just because she had spoken those words? How little things had changed. Karma had finally come to have its retribution. The one time Bette had needed those words to be the answer and they hadn’t been enough to undo what she had done.

A million more questions were waiting to be answered inside Alice‘s mind, but they were ones only Bette could answer. There was no doubt in Alice’s mind that Bette still loved Tina, but she wanted to know what had happened for her to do something that she must have known would tear them apart. It was obvious that Tina didn’t know what that reason was but there were things she did know. ‘What happens now?’

Tina leaned back and sunk into the cushions, ‘I don’t know Alice.’ Tina stared up at the ceiling hoping that the answer would magically fall from the sky. If only things were that simple. Alice looked at Tina, there was one question she wanted to ask and now that Tina wasn’t looking directly at her she felt she could ask it, ‘Do you still love her?’

Tina’s head tilted forward immediately, ‘I wasn’t the one who slept with someone else.’ That was true, but it still wasn’t an answer. Tina stared back with a raised eyebrow and arms crossed defensively, satisfied that she had given an adequate answer. Adequate it was, but it wasn’t an answer Alice would settle for, ‘Do you T?’

‘Yes.’ Tina leaned forward and lay her head next to Alice‘s. ‘She made a mistake. I don’t know why or for how long, but she’s done it now. I can’t forget that. But I still love her. I just don’t know how to forgive her right now, if she even wants me to.’ Tina raised her eyebrows as Alice let out a defeated sigh. There wasn’t anything either of them could do until they had spoken to Bette.

Alice glanced down at the coffee table and saw Tina’s phone, ‘Has she even called?’ She looked back at Tina and saw her shake her head, she noticed the concern in Tina’s eyes. ‘I’m sure she’s okay, if anything was wrong Kit would’ve called.’

    2. excellent update. i liked the whole mr. piddles investigation dream. it was a much needed comic relief. bette better get her act together and go see tina. can’t wait for next chapter and the emotional rollercoaster that will take us finally to the beginning of S2.

    3. This was indeed a lighter chapter, especially with Alice’s dream. Very funny, actually. I can’t wait to see how you will bring about the meeting of Tina and Bette.

    4. I love how you’ve tackled that difficult scene in the finale, I cant wait till Tina talks about it and see what her perspective is on it. Watching both characters discuss the break up so sadly with their close counterparts is so heart tugging and eye watering, its excellent writing. Thank you.
