The knock on the door interrupted Tina’s thoughts. She heard Bette opening the door and greeting someone. Tina joined her lover in the foyer and saw Agent McKinnon walking in. “Agent,” Tina smiled. “Would you like to join us for breakfast?”

“Tempting but no. This is going to be brief but maybe some other time, when I’m not working, we can get together at the Planet,” Agent McKinnon said, almost shyly. “I’d like to meet your sister.”

Bette laughed, “Of course, Kit is no longer in the music business but she loves meeting her fans.”

“Perfect, thank you,” the agent smiled. “Well, I came to let you both know that the FBI is dropping their investigation. The brain scans didn’t show any distinguished anomalies but even if it was, it’s a moot point. Our main witness had disappeared and Professor Kroll had gone crazy, so the FBI doesn’t have a case anymore against you, Ms. Porter.”

“Call me Bette, please. If you are going to meet my sister, we have to be on the first names basis,” Bette replied and then asked curiously, “What do you mean, your main witness disappeared? What happened to Helena?”

Agent McKinnon shrugged, “Helena Peabody had disappeared about two months ago, right around the time of our last meeting. We’ve been trying to locate her but even her mother doesn’t know where she went. We traced some of her colleagues at numerous directorial boards and business ventures and they all had the same opinion. We now think that Helena made up the time travel story as a hoax to get large donations from a few politicians and scientists who were gullible enough to believe in time travel. She wanted to solicit enough money to get the power and influence. Since her scam didn’t work, she knew we were on her trail. I think she went to some country with no extradition because she knows that messing with the FBI is a punishable offense.” The agent smiled and added, “Can you see her in prison? All I could say, ‘don’t drop the soap’.”

Tina chuckled, “Yeah, I’d pay money to see that. What about Professor Kroll?”

“Oh, since Helena’s disappearance he became more eccentric than usual. She was feeding him all this time travel possibility information and the professor based a lot of his theories on her data. I guess they tried to load her information into their database but it didn’t match any of their previously collected data and basically screwed with all his research. About a month ago his research team went to the Orange County to check the possible time travel portal perimeter and didn’t find any electro-magnetic activity, not even a residue. He went back to his lab in Portland after we informed him that the case was closed due to the lack of evidence but I’m afraid he turned into some sort of a mad scientist.”
