“Babe don’t get your hopes up. Have you told him about the baby?”
“No. I told him it was incredulous that he invited Benjamin last night when he didn’t even know the man, and hadn’t even asked about you. He tried to do the polite thing but he wasn’t sincere and I wasn’t about to put you through that. I won’t let him spoil our joy about the baby.”
“He won’t. Not this time. You know what, I would like to say hello. Let’s just test the waters.”
“Are you sure Tee. You know how cruel he can be?”
“I’m not expecting anything Bette.”
“OK. But I will understand if you hang up on him so I’ll say good-bye now. I see you later, and remember no matter what he says I love you.”
“I know. Don’t worry. I’ve been taking his shit for years.”
Tina can hear Bette greeting her father, and them settling into the car. Then she hears Bette’s voice.
“Daddy, I have Tina on the speaker phone. She wants to say hello?”
“I don’t understand?”
“Daddy, would it hurt you to just say hello?”
“Hello Ms. Kennard.”
“Hello Melvin. How are you feeling?” Tina says in a cheery voice.
Melvin just grumbles and looks out the window. Bette takes the phone off speaker and finishes the call with Tina. “I love you. I’ll see you tonight.” Tina responds with “I love you too” before they hang up.
Bette should have known that her father would be anything but pleasant towards Tina, but she vowed this was the last time he would dismiss her existence.

Bette and Melvin spend the short drive to the Planet in silence. When they get there, Kit isn’t around so Bette gives her father the tour. “She has a stage up there and then if you take the tables away …” Kit comes out of her office and sees them. She greets her father with a much more natural hug and acknowledges her sister with a kiss on the cheek.
Kit leads them to a table in the back where they can have some privacy. “Daddy have a seat, what would you like to drink and how about you baby sis?”

Hey BAT2012, i didn’t comment on the previous chapters, but i still read and enjoy this story.
I look forward how you are gonna try to change Melvin. I believe he really loves Bette, but is one big emotional handicapt man and very set in his opinions and views.
It is good to see Bette and Tina are able to support each other and hopefully they will find a way back to a healthy,strong and loving relationship.
Bette is right about Helena “fucking ” Peabody and i look forward to the moment Bette will kick her ass. Bette deals with her in a way that i admire.

Aww, Melvin just ruined my morning by being his usual overly grumpy a**hole self, just mean and hateful. I can hardly wait to see how you can make a positive change in Melvin, that will be a bloody miracle. Bette was very right in what she said to Kit, about melvin liking benjamin or the idea of him before even meeting him; that he wouldn’t think anything was wrong with her being with a married man because of his own ideas about the subject. Thanks for posting.
