“Well it doesn’t appear I have much choice these days. She keeps turning up like a bad penny. Since she joined the CAC board she’s really been getting under my skin. She attends all my meetings uninvited, and tries to undermine everything I do. Considering she didn’t think the CAC was worthy of a Peabody grant this year, she’s certainly throwing her money around; offering to underwrite entire shows. Now she’s got Franklin convinced to bring in some new guy from New York named Leo Herrera to do fund raising. I just wish she’d stay out of my way. I know you don’t believe me Tee, but I swear that woman has an agenda that includes getting me fired.”
“So, are you going along with her to keep your job?”
“Hardly Tee. I don’t need the job and I certainly don’t need to put up with her bullshit. I’m just biding time while I work out my next move. As for this evening, I’m sure she just invited me to gloat. I’m probably seated at a back table with an unobstructed view where I will be forced to watch her pawing over you all night.”
“Bette come on. If this is going to cause a scene maybe you shouldn’t come.”
“Tina, it’s okay. I promise I won’t do anything to embarrass you. I don’t like that she’s your date, but tonight is not about Helena. I just want to be there to support you. Tonight is about you. I’m very proud of you.”
“Thank you Bette. That means a lot.”
Bette arrived at the hotel so she had to end the call. “You and our daughter mean everything to me Tee. I love you. I know I need to earn back your trust, but I won’t ever let you down again. I’m grateful and thankful that you’re giving me that chance. If it means putting up with Helena ‘Fucking’ Peabody, then I suppose I deserve it. Karma is a bitch.”
“Don’t think of it that way Bette. We’re doing great. One day at a time okay?”
“OK. I’m sorry sweetie, my dad is heading to the car. Do you want to say hello before I hang up?”
“You’re kidding right?”
“I was sort of hoping it would be different this time.”

Hey BAT2012, i didn’t comment on the previous chapters, but i still read and enjoy this story.
I look forward how you are gonna try to change Melvin. I believe he really loves Bette, but is one big emotional handicapt man and very set in his opinions and views.
It is good to see Bette and Tina are able to support each other and hopefully they will find a way back to a healthy,strong and loving relationship.
Bette is right about Helena “fucking ” Peabody and i look forward to the moment Bette will kick her ass. Bette deals with her in a way that i admire.

Aww, Melvin just ruined my morning by being his usual overly grumpy a**hole self, just mean and hateful. I can hardly wait to see how you can make a positive change in Melvin, that will be a bloody miracle. Bette was very right in what she said to Kit, about melvin liking benjamin or the idea of him before even meeting him; that he wouldn’t think anything was wrong with her being with a married man because of his own ideas about the subject. Thanks for posting.
Helena F@*#ckn Peabody invited Bette hoping that she’ll go off on a self-righteous screeching jealous fit and embarrass Tina!! Plus Helena is the Queen of Gloat!
