“You alright baby?” Alice extended her hands and helped pull Dana to her feet. “He’s the one, isn’t he?” Dana nodded. “Umm, Teri, tell us about that one…Dave?”
“Dave’s great, but he’s a handful ladies,” Teri began. “He’s three and lived with his first owner in a frat house, but when he got into medical school he brought Dave to us. That was about four months ago.”
Hearing his name, Dave left the volunteer and ball behind and came back to Dana and Alice, lying obediently at their feet. Two hours of canine play later, Alice reluctantly reminded Dana that they still had to go to Anya’s. They explained about the tournament and made arrangements to pick Dave up the following week.
“Every placement has a thirty day trial period,” Teri cautioned. “And we’ll do a home visit during that time, but I’m sure you’ll do fine.”
Helena knocked again, loudly this time. Lara’s car was in the carport so she knew she was home and was starting to worry. Even if she’d been sleeping, Helena knew she would have heard the phone ringing, earplugs and all.
“Lara, I know what happened.” She heard a muffled sound from the other side of the door as Lara’s head fell against it softly. “My love, let me in. You don’t have to protect me from Winnie.”
Helena tried not to let her reaction show as her eyes adjusted to the darkness of Lara’s apartment. Her mail was unopened, tossed on a pile on her coffee table, where it shared space with empty water bottles and a couple of dirty dishes. This was not how Lara lived.
“You heard her that night, didn’t you?” Helena asked gently.
“Yes,” Lara admitted. “I can’t let you lose your children because of me.”
“Oh, sweet Lara,” Helena cupped her face in her hands, “that will never happen. She petitions the court every three months and we negotiate higher support every six.”
“But she was so angry about you and me…”
“She was trying to set me up so that she and that vile Gail Guthrie could ruin me and get even more money from my mother.” Helena kissed Lara’s forehead. “I have a lot to tell you about the past couple of days, but first things first. How are you?”

Excellent, Helena’s gone to Lara. Take that, Winnie. Everyone’s back on track, which is good. Nice chapter, can’t wait for Dave to come and wreak a bit of havoc.

This story rocks! I absolutely love it. Especially the Danish parts because, well come on. We all know their the best. :) But it really is a great story and you do such a fantastic job writing it. I can’t wait for the next update.

You’re right. I did enjoy this update. You hit me with a whole bunch of Danish, and Buffy reference. “Mr. Pointy.” Haha. Awesome! I love how Dana tried to do an impression of Alice. I can see her doing that, and just picturing it makes me laugh. Alice always seems to be putting girls with clipboards in their places. :) Yeah! They got a doggie. Very cute. I hope he’s not going to be too much of a handful. “The dress,” Al gasped with her last thought. “No marks…” Will Alice be sporting a new scarf? :) I loved the update. I can’t wait to see what’s next.
Yay. I love this story so much. This update was so incredibly sweet with the doggie and the Lara taking Helena back and the house keys. The happy has definitely been achieved. Kudos.

I love how Dave chose them! And, I’m looking forward to the home visit….why am I sensing Dave is going to be a mess when that happens? I guess I haven’t commented in ages. But still reading and loving it. I would like to see Peggy dealing with Winnie. That could be a blast. :)The (emotional) bond bewteen all of the couples is getting stronger and stronger (and it differs per couple), nice!And I love Dave already. I think his character will suit the both of them perfectly. :)
great update! and how awesome to see peggy supporting her daughter. i can’t help but love peggy peabody, even when she’s evil. but i think it’s more about the actress that plays her, holland taylor is always wonderful.anyway… great stuff and i can’t wait until the next update!
