Today sophomore Tina Kennard will be  going to her first basketball practice as a member of the girls varsity team. 
Tina moved to California as a freshman about a year ago. Her dad relocated his wife and daughter to California from North Carolina.  Tina met with the coach Stacy on Friday and she was so impressed with Tina’s skill level, that she put Tina on the varsity team.  She had to sit and watch as the team scrimmaged because she wouldn’t officially be a member of the Angels until later in the week.  Tina had to wait for some  paperwork to be completed before she could officially become a full fledged Angel.  Tina sat in the bleaches and watched the girls play.  She was impressed. They were much more athletic than the younger players on her now former JV squad.  They actually ran plays and were serious about defense.  Tina was scouted by coach Stacy because she needed a good ball handler and shooter to replace her injured guard Dana.  If she was going to make a run at the State title, she needed a good player who could spot up and hit the open shot when her star player Bette Porter was double and triple teamed.

Bette was the quintessential player.  She was hellacious on defense and she was a fearless offensive threat whether in the post or on the three point line.  Bette led the team in steals and field goal percentage.  Bette Porter was awesome on the court and she was beautiful as well.  She had her own cheering section at all the games, with both boys and girls screaming every time she touched the ball. Bette was a star basketball player and a very good student.  She was hoping to have her pick of either a great Ivy league school like Yale, or a great athletic school like Stanford. Either way she is hoping to get a full ride based on her grades or basketball skills. She was very comfortable in her own skin. She has known since about age twelve that she liked girls. Boys were cool as friends, but when they tried to kiss her she always thought it was gross. Now a senior in high school, she was the most popular girl in school.
