    While Helen waits alone, Nikki goes to Tina’s place.

     

    “Shall we go to my place?” Tina asked. “It’s close.”

     

    “Fine,” came the clipped response.

     

    The drive was short and the two of them ended up in the living room. It was not lost upon Tina that somewhere between the kiss and the car the level of ardor had gone from lust to lull. “Would you like something to drink?”

     

    “I think I’ve had enough drink.” Nikki shook her head, and sat on one end of the couch. “More than enough.”

     

    “Water? Juice? Tea?”

     

    “I’d love tea, if anyone in this country could make a decent cup.”

     

    The sense of indignation made Tina smile, which in turn seemed to lighten Nikki’s mood. “Juice, then.” Offer given and received, and the tension in the room lessened considerably.

     

    When Tina re-entered, Nikki seemed more relaxed, more ready to talk.

     

    “I’m sorry about before,” she started. “I didn’t mean to lead you on, but I’m not available, not like that.”

     

    The words were blunt but not unexpected. After all, they matched the actions. Besides, this was things were clear for them, between them. In some ways, that was a nice change from the usual set of mixed signals that Tina found prevalent in women.

     

    “We can just talk. I suppose a part of me is disappointed, but I didn’t ask you out under pretense. I really am interested in your story.”

     

    “I should tell you that I’m not single. All the talk, the wine. I was getting a bit overwhelmed in the memories.” Nikki ran her hand through her short hair. “Somehow, in it all, I forgot the one thing that was most important to me in that time. Hope. Helen – she’s my partner. Helen was, still is, that hope.”

     

    “I didn’t realize.”

     

    “We keep things quiet, usually. There’s a bit of a story behind that, too, but I’d rather not get into this at present.”

     

    Tina nodded. The filmmaker in her wondered what this mysterious story might be, but she respected Nikki’s request enough to not ask. “So, Helen’s back in England?”

     

    “Actually, she’s here. We came together.”

     

    “But when I’ve seen you, you’ve been alone.”

     

    Nikki wondered about lighting up a cigarette, but had a feeling that this wouldn’t be welcomed. Instead, she took a sip of the juice. She wasn’t sure exactly what it was, something pinkish. “She’s working on a project. It’s left me with a bit of time on my hands.”

    1. So Helen is trying to kill 2 birds with one stone on her trip to LALA (no pun intended, at least not yet-let’s see how things go between Helen and Bette when they meet in person)? It’s a long way to go for some sperm, but I seem to recall something about some artwork that Nikki, whom Helen was repping, produced that Bette was interested in showing (I could be wrong, it’s been a long time). Would you please be so kind as to remove the question mark that you keep putting behind the tbc? You write, we read, stop worrying.

    3. I didn’t read this before because I haven’t watched Bad Girls, but then I said to myself, it’s pseud, idiot, read it. Of course, I’m glad I did.

    5. Maybe this is the way that both couples can find peace and back into each others’ arms. Bette and Tina are further apart but maybe by helping Nikki and Helen they can put those pieces together again.

    6. A long way to go for sperm, but you will wait forever under the NHS to get the treatment you want, so can understand why Nikki and Helen have went stateside. I liked Tina in this chapter, very sincere, hopefully her and Bette may still have a chance. Thanks

    7. Ah, so we finally find out Nikki’s source of angst. Understandable, but her heart’s in the right place. Tina’s right though, love’s a good start, and excellent start, but you gotta work at it. If she and Bette are even going to think to try, they got shedloads of work to do. And I can see why Helen’s gone stateside for sperm, more expensive maybe, but the wait is shorter and well… there’s a bit of a donor shortage here. Very good pseud, more please. Thanks
