    While Helen waits alone, Nikki goes to Tina’s place.

    Helen returned to the room and found it empty. She’d hoped that Nikki would be around so that they could discuss their earlier row.

     

    She wasn’t surprised to find the room empty. Nikki had a need to feel physically free, a trait that sometimes frustrated Helen, but one that Helen could understand. Her partner was a woman of strong will, a fact that never made things easy for Nikki during her incarceration.

     

    Nikki’s struggles against authority were something of a legend when Helen first arrived at Larkhall as wing governor. At that time she found the tall woman a challenge. A woman who was motivated by her own sense of justice and fairness, a point of view that was often at odds with the prison service’s interpretations of the same concepts.

     

    Although she may have began as a challenge, a chance for Helen to make a difference for at least one woman, for the wing, Nikki quickly became so much more. After a series of fits and starts, Helen related to the person beneath the tough exterior and found someone whose beliefs and values were much in line with her own.

     

    After connecting with Nikki, it should have been no surprise that eventually Helen would decide that she, also, was not a good fit to remain working within the prisons. Of course, the physical relationship was a different issue all together. Unlike some of her colleagues, Helen wouldn’t let herself be involved in a sexual relationship with someone who was still locked up. Despite any pretense of equality based on belief or affection, there would always remain the power imbalance between the positions.

     

    Given the fact that isolation and confinement were typical punishments, no, it was no surprise that Nikki was not waiting for her back in the room. Helen only hoped that she’d be back soon.

    Tina settled the check and she and Nikki headed to the car.

     

    One look at Tina and it was clear to Nikki that the other woman was developing certain expectations.

     

    For herself, Nikki’s head was beginning to clear. Her actions becoming apparent. Tina leaned closer, as if for another kiss, but Nikki turned her head away. Tears stung at her eyes. What the hell was she doing?

    1. So Helen is trying to kill 2 birds with one stone on her trip to LALA (no pun intended, at least not yet-let’s see how things go between Helen and Bette when they meet in person)? It’s a long way to go for some sperm, but I seem to recall something about some artwork that Nikki, whom Helen was repping, produced that Bette was interested in showing (I could be wrong, it’s been a long time). Would you please be so kind as to remove the question mark that you keep putting behind the tbc? You write, we read, stop worrying.

    3. I didn’t read this before because I haven’t watched Bad Girls, but then I said to myself, it’s pseud, idiot, read it. Of course, I’m glad I did.

    5. Maybe this is the way that both couples can find peace and back into each others’ arms. Bette and Tina are further apart but maybe by helping Nikki and Helen they can put those pieces together again.

    6. A long way to go for sperm, but you will wait forever under the NHS to get the treatment you want, so can understand why Nikki and Helen have went stateside. I liked Tina in this chapter, very sincere, hopefully her and Bette may still have a chance. Thanks

    7. Ah, so we finally find out Nikki’s source of angst. Understandable, but her heart’s in the right place. Tina’s right though, love’s a good start, and excellent start, but you gotta work at it. If she and Bette are even going to think to try, they got shedloads of work to do. And I can see why Helen’s gone stateside for sperm, more expensive maybe, but the wait is shorter and well… there’s a bit of a donor shortage here. Very good pseud, more please. Thanks
