Jess and Cat had moved to Washington about six months after Jess graduated from UCLA. They lived in Washington for about two years before Cat was unexpectedly appointed as Ambassador to Spain. They moved briefly back to LA when Jess was about five months pregnant and then when Callie was four months they moved back to Spain. Bette and Tina had not been to happy about any of the moves but they knew they couldn’t stop them. Bette and Tina made the occasional visit to Spain but with the boys and Angelica in High school and now the boys in college they weren’t able to travel that much. Mostly because both Ian and Angelica had taken after Jess and were often in trouble for something or the other. Jess made the trip alone with Callie a couple of times when Cat was unable to go, but as Callie had gotten older she wanted less and less to leave either Cat or Jess for more than a night or two. Shannon would often visit on her way to a filming location. Bette and Tina had made the trip once with the whole family one summer. After that summer the kids had camp and other plans.

Often Jess and Cat had to go on a diplomatic visits and couldn’t take Callie. They would try to get Bette and Tina to come stay with her, but Tina had was Head of the studio and Bette always had a new show at the gallery, timing was never right. Jess called on trusty Aunt Alice. Alice made more trips to Spain than anyone else. Jess and Cat made a choice to never leave Callie with a nanny unless it was an emergency. Most of the time Jess stayed home but their was an occasion that she was needed to be by Cat’s side. Alice was happy to fill in. She would usually bring Dana, Helena or Shane.
