Life with Mom and Tina Ch 72
"When did you learn that Mom was a lesbian?"
"I guess I have always known. I don’t remember not knowing that she liked girls instead of boys. I think I was three when I learned what the word meant and that she was one, but that’s just a label."
"Where you ever singled out because of who she was?"
"Because she was a lesbian or a major figure in the art world?"
"Both?"
"Yes and no. I was never singled out for being a kid of lesbian that I remember. Yes I have been singled out for being the daughter of a famous gallery owner. At least when I am involved in the art world."
"Did you ever feel different?"
"No. Well not really. I still had a dad and a mom they just weren’t married. By the time that I was really old enough to fully understand the world and how a lot of people felt about our family I was old enough not to care what anybody else thought. I mean people have all kinds of family’s some have one dad some have two. Some have one mom and some have two. Some people live with a mom and dad some live with them in different houses. Some people live with grandparents or aunts or uncles. Some live with foster parents. Some people don’t have anybody to take care of them at all and have to live in an children’s home. Everyone is different if we were all the same the world would be very boring."
"How did you feel about having two moms instead of one?"
"Happy and Sad. Tina had lived with us for two years before she officially adopted me. She was already like a mom to me. She was here for me when my dad died. To me it was just a piece of paper but to them it was important, because it meant that no matter what I would be hers forever. I was sad because it meant that my dad’s side of the family no longer had any legal right to me. I initially thought that I wouldn’t see them anymore, but I was young and didn’t understand that it didn’t change my relationship with them. In fact I think it brought us closer together."

I have tears in my eyes! Thank you, that was beautiful
Now, that is a family. To love as much as they all do. Charmed, the way that you write not only brings out the love but shows them dealing with what life throws at them. Some do a better job than others but all families have troubles. Bette raised one hell of a daughter in Jess. I love this story and hope that you will continue to write it.
We always seem to learn more about Jess just when we thought we knew her inside and out. Playing tennis at five? Cute. :)
wonderful – send it to congress to have someone read it into the congressional record when they debate the ill conceived and hateful Marriage Amendment. You write beautifully.
Just has been adorable to me since the day she was born, she still is. She has been so lucky to have both Bette and Tina as Moms.yet she is jesse.sweet, loveable, stubborn temper but she is happy with her family. thanks
this was a wonderful talk. i hope this help to Jess to move on. I think then you will write for much much much more time because i like it so much this story

Good job, I hope that Bette gets a chance see this interview. I think that it will help her see Jess’s point of view and this should help Jess resolve some of her issues.
