    Life As We Know It – #401 – The L Word S4

“This isn’t as out of the blue as it sounds, Alice.  I have a friend, his name is Harold.  He just won some money, he competed on a TV show, that Top Chef we watched?  He won.  He called me last week, and asked me if I’d be willing to be a sous chef at his new place, in New York,” explained Lara.

                “Harold…  Top Chef…,” muttered Alice.

The silence filled the small, quaint room.  Lara still on the edge of the bed, and Alice still standing next to the door, stunned beyond words.

“If I’d thought you an I were serious,” began Lara.  Regretting having told Harold yes, regretting having slept with Alice to begin with.  Regretting that she’d run away from Dana.  Regrets piled up on her, weighing down her slight frame.  Her whole body slumped.

“I didn’t know, not until today.  I did the zipline, and swore I’d tell you how I felt,” said Alice softly.  “You need to go, to New York.”

“No, I can stay,” nodded Lara.

“No, you have to go.  Or you are going to hate yourself, and you are going to hate me.  I don’t ever want you to hate me,” Alice said, the tears brimming in her dark eyes.

“I can never hate you,” admitted Lara.  She stood, grabbing Alice’s wrist and pulling her gently into her arms.  “Take me to bed, Alice.”

Alice nodded.  Guiding Lara to the bed, turning off the light, and falling into bed with the gorgeous redhead that she was sure she could have fallen in love with, given half the chance.

    Life As We Know It

Bette’s eyes were fixed on the road, a soft snow peppered the windshield, the wipers barely keeping up with the melting white powder.  Angelica cooed in the car seat.

“How is my baby girl doing?” Bette asked.  Her cell phone was glowing in the passengers seat next to her.  She was sure it was filled with voice mails from Tina, and more than likely, many of the other women that graced her every day life.

A morbid thought hit her suddenly, what if something had happened?  She’d been away when Dana had died.  Bette had been sure she’d felt Dana go.
