We all look for meaning, whether we know it or not. Lara buried herself in her work because it had become more satisfying than she ever thought possible. Helena tried her best to accept this explanation, but found herself looking for the real reason Lara was pulling away from her.
“I’ve offered to help her fund her own place,” she told Alice and Bette over cocktails. “No offense to your sister, but Lara is ready to move on.”
“Apparently she’s not,” Bette answered as kindly as possible, “or she would have accepted your offer.”
“But that’s where you’re mistaken.” Helena drained the remains of her third double martini. “Lara has gotten where she is entirely on her own. She would never accept my help.”
“If you knew that, then why did you make the offer?” Alice waived off the waitress, gesturing for the check instead.
“It wasn’t what you think,” came the sincere answer. “I wasn’t going to underwrite the whole thing, I was going to assemble a group of investors.”
“And she understood this?” Bette slipped her credit card into the folder.
“Yes, but she said she didn’t want that responsibility…that the hours would be impossible and that restaurants have too high a failure rate for her to accept anyone else’s money.” Helena rummaged through her purse for the keys Alice already had. “Next thing you know, she’s working even harder at The Planet and she’s launched her own business.”
“You’re not exactly working a part-time job yourself,” Bette said as Alice gently guided Helena to the door.
“I miss her. I miss her so much.”
“Can you take her to your place?” Alice and Dana had a dinner Mercedes and a new Think Pink sponsor in an hour. “I’m really sorry, but I don’t have time to take her to my place and get back into town.”
“It’s not a problem. I already texted Tina and she’s expecting us.” Bette gave her ticket to the valet. “We’ll get some supper into her and come back for her car later.”
The day had been better than usual for Shane. She’d managed to keep appointments with three clients and was looking forward to taking Beth to her favorite little dive for burgers and beer. It was the most un-Hollywood thing she could think of and thought it would be a perfect first date. It also had the advantage of being just far enough from both her house and Beth’s to avoid the temptation of moving too fast. For a few hours anyway, she felt like herself again. Shane swung by The Planet for a caffeine jolt with more than an hour to kill before her date.

hiya SG! In total agreement with everyone else on how great your total storyline development is clicking along! I was hungry for a double cheeseburger after reading your update–am looking forward to more Shane and Beth–this is a twist on Shane that I quite like. Overall, the sense of true friendship comes from your writing- and that makes it way too easy to get invested in your stories! Good stuff…and thanks for the update!
Crap, Helena’s insecurities have come to play. I hope Lara and Helena can work things out. I adore Alice and Dana, they are just SOOOOO cute!
I was just about to shut down the computer and go to bed when I thought I give the site one last check, and I’m so glad I did. I know I’m saying this for the millionth time, but you really do get better every single time you post. It’s amazing to me how you can get me so invested in every single storyline. I doubt there’s ever been a movie, show, book, or anything else that’s managed to do that. This was an excellent update, and it really laid the groundwork for a lot of things to come. Can’t wait to see how everything plays out.
First let me second and third everything MT said in her comments. I am a Danish shipper, but, I find myself invested in all the relationships in your stories. I love the tentative steps that Shane and Beth are taking. So sweet. Helena and Lara are in trouble. I think they need to talk more than they need to have sex. I hope they can get it together since they seem like they are good for each other. Bette and Tina seem to be OK. For now. Stupid TAs. I just adore how you write Alice and Dana. The love, lust, support, respect, joy, etc, etc… is wonderful to read. Talking to the baby is so cute. I can’t wait to see what the plan is for the tabloids. I’m glad Dana is so calm about it — she doesn’t need the stress right now. I’m worried about Alice going back to that hotel. At least Dana will be there with her. I caught up! YAY I read this one aloud too and I have to say it makes my ears hot lol. Awesome update mama I wasn’t expecting the Shane Helena Lara triangle Shane is going to be really fucking surprised to learn she’s in a love triangle eh? I also have to comment on the toothpaste because its so beyond disturbing but the perfect kind of throw away that we are so accustomed to. No Danish sex :( sad face because you know how I love the hot hot heated sexy time they bring or you bring I’m not sure which but yeah I need a lot of that next chapter. I did however enjoy the end scene with Dave and the baby its good that they’re getting aquatinted ahead of time also its beyond adorable. I can’t wait for the next chapter but I hope you won’t make me wait too long (that means I want a snippet) love you mama b! Post Soon!
