Laid Up: Another Season 3 – Chapter 26C

“Perhaps someone can bring it down to you later.”  He closed the back door.

He got in and turned the key in the ignition and pulled away from the house.

“Can you tell me why?  This is totally crazy.  It’s trumped up.  It’s ridiculous.”

“Do you know a Mr. Peter Scott?” he asked as he looked at the monitor attached to a swivel arm leading from the dashboard.  The monitor gave him the information he needed about this pick up.

“Of course I know him.  He’s my former fiancé.”

“I believe Mr. Scott, the state of North Carolina, and the City of Charlotte don’t find this ridiculous.  You know, attempting to transport stolen property across state lines is not jaywalking.”

Stephanie’s mouth fell open as she stared vacantly straight ahead.

    * * * * *

Kit, Alice, and Dana were also staring blankly at Officer Melabranche.  He had sat them on Bette and Tina’s sofa and was pacing back and forth in the living room as he shouted at them.  “I want to know where the lady went.”

    “Again, we don’t know.”

“Look, you, three.  I’m not fooled by all your girl-on-girl action and re-arranging closets in the other room.  Distractions.  Now I want to know why and where she went?”

“We weren’t trying to distract you, really.  We’re in love,” Alice said.

Dana smiled innocently.  “We’re getting married.”

“I happen to like cleaning out closets.  My baby sis been busy.  She needs to get out her fall wardrobe.  I was just helpin’.  I didn’t even notice Tina left.”

“Where is Ms. Kennard?  I will run the three of you in so fast, it’ll make your heads spin.  Do you want to be in a holding cell downtown?  I’ve got cots for all of you.”

    “W-wait a second.”

Alice glared at Dana, then at Officer Melabranche.  “I swear to you, we don’t know where she went.  We thought that she was napping.”

“I thought she was sitting in here,” Kit said.

“And what about the other girl?  The Hispanic?”

    “We thought Carmen went home.”

“I’ve already been over there.  That house is empty.  I’m going to have a car come by and pick you up.  I am so not kidding.  Where is she?”

    1. i am once again left speechless at your incredible ability to weave a tale. i actually yelped in excitement when Angie was safe but at the same time, believe it or not, felt somewhat sorry for Josh. only your writing could evoke that somewhat schizophrenic sympathy.I’m also a bit worried at the introduction of Jodi into the story but hope that after all that we’ve been through with Bette and Tina to date, she will not pose a threat to their relationship.as for all of the other characters and their stories, i am finding them entertaining and interesting as well which is not usually the case when reading as i’m pretty much just a Tina/Bette fan. this again, is testimony to your ability to ability to entertain.thanks again for the story and the time and effort that must be involved. looking forward as always to reading more.

    2. I’ve spent the past two days reading the whole thing, and honestly? It’s great. Really, really great. The characters are well written and adhere to canon, your reweaving of the events of Season 3 into this alternative version is not only really well done, but in my mind — preferable. As for the Jodi issue, if she’s like every other non-core character in your work (herself, but changed), I’ll be very happy to see where that goes. I do wonder, though, moments after Bette is reunited with Tina and her baby for the first time in weeks, she wanders off to talk to Jodi? That seems a little… I don’t know, inhuman? But, hey, if that’s my only complaint in 26 chapters, consider it an amazing feat. I’m a huge Danish fan, and I’m happy to see you keeping the love alive. Would love to see more of that relationship in your writing, but generally I think the chapters are fairly good about being even with their time. You’re prolific. Are you really spitting out this much in three days? Because if so, that’s incredible. I mean, really, really exceptional. Thanks for writing this, it’s a great read, and I can’t wait to see more of it.

    3. Thank goodness Angelica is safe. I’m glad Boden was there. Um, not too excited about Jodi showing up in this story :). Can’t wait for the celebration…hope everyone gets a little ‘private celebration’ time . You’ve really spoiled us this last week Portia. Thanks for this wonderful fic and don’t be gone too long :)

    4. Bette better mess up of jodi!! yeah for angie being okay… now it’s time for the port-kennards to get on with their lives. tina needs to finish her rehab.i wonder what else steph. did what else is she hiding??? great update!!:)

    5. Ahhhh… I can breathe now. That was tense, but Baby A is safe, finally! I’m so glad there was a third person there and Boden clocked that whining maggot Josh. Although, I think Bette would have ripped him apart eventually anyway. Hels is leaving, which is a shame, but her heart’s somewhere else… So! Ol’ Steph’s about to get her comeuppance, big time. I hope Peter gets his money back, as well as his furniture. I’m dreading the stuff coming out that was on that list of hers. Girl needs help, if she can survive prison. This was so good, I can’t wait for the next post. thanks Portia.
