Just The Girl – Chapter Nine (a HYD-inspired fic)

"Yes and no." Helena answered. "Yes, in some little way they are afraid of Bette. With Porter being a self-proclaimed bombastic bully and all." Helena smiled. "And also no, because the truth is.. they benefit from Bette’s behavior too."

Tina furrowed her brows. "In what way?"

"Bette is extremely protective of her friends.. all three of them." Helena laughed a little, yes Bette was protective of her too.. but Porter saw her more as an older sister. "If you list down all of Bette’s red tagged victims, you would see that most of them actually did something negative to one of the three."

"So.. you’re saying that they encourage Porter’s behavior because in some warped way, it’s also advantageous to them?" Tina asked, trying to get a grip of Helena’s words.

"Yes. The three people who had the power to call Bette Porter on her actions never actually did." Helena shrugged. "And from what I heard from Alice and Bette Porter herself, the first person who actually had the guts to put the queen in her place was a certain Christina Kennard."

Tina blushed at Helena’s statement. "Someone had to do it.." She shrugged.

"And I’m so glad that it was you who did." Helena smiled sincerely as she held Tina’s gaze. "You know what, I think you gave Sam the strength to do the same." Helena added a few seconds later, causing Tina to blush even more deeply.

"Th-thanks.. I think." Tina looked down as she grabbed her neck with her hand in embarrassment. "Umm.. I better go and get cleaned up some more.." Tina pointed to the shower room with her thumb.

"Oh! Okay." Helena said as she started to walk backwards to the door. "Wait.. do you need a change of clothes?" Helena stopped in her tracks as she eyed Tina’s muddy uniform.

Tina smiled warmly at Helena. "I’m fine." She pointed to a backpack on top of one of the wooden benches. "I’ve been bringing spare clothes to school these past few days.."

"I see." Helena smiled, she somehow felt that this wasn’t the first time that Tina had to use those spare clothes she brought. "I better leave you alone then." She smiled at the blonde. "It was really nice to meet you."
