Just The Girl – Chapter Nine (a HYD-inspired fic)

    CHAPTER NINE: Righting the Wrong

Along a deserted corridor on the first floor of Redwind Academy, a pair of Manolo Blahnik heels clicked loudly on the marble floor. Helena Peabody followed a trail of muddy footsteps as she traveled her way inside the familiar walls of her alma mater. When she arrived in the school a few minutes ago, she had every intention of pulling a surprise on Sam and the rest of F4. She felt bad for blowing off Sam for an ex who didn’t really treat her that well before, so she cut the impromptu lunch date short and drove straight to Redwind. But it looks like I’m the one who got surprised, she shook her head as she remembered seeing Bette and Sam fighting over a girl on the middle of the soccer field. She had witnessed the events from inside the driver’s seat of her silver BMW convertible. She thanked God that the main parking area was full and that she had to park all the way back in the lot near the outdoor sports center. Her spot had an excellent view of the field and all the drama that happened on it.

She was shocked to see Bette and Sam fighting. And over a girl too! Of all the years that they have known each other, she has never seen those two fight. Sure there were times when the two were in the verge of entering into some major verbal sparring session but it was over even before it started. Sam never stood up to Bette, even though they were bestfriends and they were entitled to call upon each others shit. No, they never really fought because Sam always backed down when things were about to turn ugly. She always took the easy way out, preferring to let Bette win then to confront her. It was pointless anyway, since Bette’s alpha nature always needed to make sure that she came out as the victor. Bette must have done something really unforgivable to rouse Sam’s anger and drive her into offense, Helena thought as she watched the two pull a frazzled girl between them.

Helena leaned forward on the steering wheel as she tried to get a clear picture of the girl beneath all the mud. Her hand flew to her mouth in surprise when she saw the major bitch slap that Bette received. Helena flinched at the sight and felt a little bad for Bette. That must have hurt, she rubbed her cheek unconsciously. That brave girl.. must be.. the one. Bette’s one. Helena narrowed her eyes as she realized just who the mud girl must be. Aww Bette, what have you done? She thought as she watched the girl run away and enter a small side door in the main building. Helena quickly undid her seat buckle, opened the car door and stepped out. She walked as fast as her 4-inch heels would allow her in the direction of the door where Bette’s muddy girl disappeared into.
