Just The Girl – Chapter Fifteen (a HYD-inspired fic)

Tina furrowed her brows, shaking her head at the stubborn heiress. "I can’t."

Bette was hearing none of it. "You can." She stressed. "And you will."

Tina sighed, running a tired hand through her hair. Why can’t these brats ever accept NO as an answer? Every rich kid in this school seem to have an aversion to it. "Sorry, but I can’t be all carefree like you guys. I can’t do anything I like without thinking about the repercussions." She shrugged. She was trying to help her dad out financially, although in a little way, by her part-time job as a waitress. No matter how much she admired Helena Peabody and desired to see Sam at the party, thoughts of her stressed and overworked father outweighed those feelings of hers.

"I wouldn’t be so insistent that you come if I knew that it was going to be bad for you." Bette said sincerely, her voice turning rarely soft and gentle. "Don’t worry about a thing, I’ll take care of everything." She smiled as she looked into those hazel eyes that were looking back at her doubtfully. "I’ve got your back, I promise." She whispered before turning around and walking away. "See you in homeroom!" She shouted over her shoulder. Without missing a beat, she fished out her phone from her purse and pressed speed-dial two. It took a while for the person on the other line to answer. "Shane! I need you to do something for me.." She said into the receiver to her still sleepy sounding friend.

Tina and Jenny watched Bette walk away with mixed expressions. Tina wore that of puzzlement while Jenny had amusement written all over her face.

"Does she..?" Jenny raised an eyebrow, pointing a finger between Tina and Bette.

Tina frowned. "Does she what?" She asked.

Jenny smirked, ribbing her best friend. "Does Bette Porter have a thing for you?" She raised her eyebrows up and down, her eyes glinting in mischief.

"No!!" Tina protested violently, shaking her blonde head vigorously to the side. That was absurd!

Jenny pursed her lips together and smiled naughtily. "I think she does.."

"Look.." Tina ran a hand through her hair, her face turning beet red. "She’s just being nice because she’s trying to atone for all the shit she has put me through. That’s it." She said, trying to convince Jenny – and herself too. All the banter and teasing that they did was just innocent right?
