Just The Girl 2.0 – Chapter Twenty Five, Prologue

Anxious as I was, I arrived at the grill this afternoon half an hour early then scheduled, armed with a hundred and one questions and short-circuiting nerves. To my utter surprise, three members of F4 were already here, playing pool, having fun and getting drunk at 3′o’clock in the afternoon. Now those were my kind of girls. As discrete as a rampaging rhino, I sat in a corner booth and observed. Their laughter permeated the air like a warm blanket of cheeky giggles and chortles. It’s infectious, melodic even. After a while, they noticed me watching them, and seeing the notebook in my hand, the tape recorder on the table and the way I chewed neurotically on the tip of my ballpoint pen – they correctly deduced that I was their interviewer. They finished their game, and after a second, made their way to me – half-empty beer bottles in hand and warms smiles on their faces. I was starstruck. I was smitten. They introduced themselves as Alice Pieszecki, Shane McCutcheon and Sam Makavejev. And when the perfunctory exchange of pleasantries were done, they slid right inside the booth and joined me. They told me that Bette Porter was just finishing up a meeting nearby and would be on her way in a few minutes. In case she’d make it a little late than the agreed time, Sam apologized in behalf of her bestfriend for her tardiness. I didn’t really mind, to tell you the truth. Bette Porter could make me wait for five whole hours for all I care. As long as she arrives and sits down for an interview, waiting doesn’t bother me a bit.

After a while, they excuse themselves for a quick trip to the girls room. Yes, all three of them. I know this has been asked a million times before.. but what is it with women and going to the comfort room in groups? Do they need hand holding when they pee? Is there some sort of sacred ritual that happens in there? What? I guess I have to be part of the other sex to know. What women do inside those four tiled walls is one of the greatest mysteries that boggle the minds of men. Yours truly included.
