If You Never Say Anything to Me ch. 5

“Well Sweets, Dad and I only want you to be happy. Whatever form happiness presents itself to you, we will support you and love you regardless. Your grandparents were married for fifty years and I think your grandmother was miserable for 49 of those years. I would never wish that on you. You know that we don’t care about things like this so you need to find your own happiness.”

I was on the verge of crying. “Thanks Mom. It means a lot to me that you so understand. That’s why I think that I’m ok with making these choices. If I feared that you wouldn’t be supportive I would probably be afraid to explore these thoughts but you make it so easy for me. I thought of Grandma and how unhappy she was and I don’t want that. I don’t want to settle. I need to run and get ready for work but I do appreciate you always being here for me.”

“Tina, we’ll always be here for you. That’s a fear you need not have. Keep me posted Sweetie and know that I love you.”

“Will do Mom. Love you too. Thanks. Bye for now.” I knew based on my parent’s unconditional love throughout my life that Mom wouldn’t have problems with me telling her anything that was going on in my life. We had always had a close relationship in which I shared the happenings in my life regularly. I hid little from them. It just wasn’t necessary. If I never pursued anything with a female or if I get involved in a loving relationship with a woman, my mom would always be the one who I talked things over with. It at times took me a little while before saying something to her but I always did. Her insight is something that I always needed and appreciated and her non judgmental approach always made me feel better.

My day started off so well and continued in that manner. I had patients throughout the day but none were difficult cases. I was helping one woman learn to be more assertive while helping another forgive her parents for past neglect and abuse. Both were well on their way to leading healthier lives and to have witnessed so much of their progress was something that I cherished. I barely even thought of Bette throughout the day. Barely. I did of course. I thought of her when I first entered my office and imagined that I still could smell her scent from the previous day. It got my mind wandering but as the day passed, I put those thoughts aside.

    1. I really really like your writing and thanks for such an interesting story with the characters being mature for a change. Thanks also for your explanation of how you will handle the therapist issues – I do hate it when fiction basically maligns the profession but your thoughts were well stated and so I will read on without worry.

    2. it’s really nice to see tina’s mom so supportive of her!!i love how you’re writing shane in this story. i always felt when tina finally knows what she wanst she will figure out a way to get it without intentionally hurting anyone. the fact that she is willing to transfer bettes to somone else simplely she maybe be the person to help her, not because of her atttraction to bette, that says a lot about tina as a doctor and a human being. :)PPS

    3. It was nice to see talk to her mother and she was so supportive. I think its sweet that Tina is thinking of transfering Bette to someone new but I think it would back fire. Thanks I am loving this story

    4. Thanks for posting another chapter today of this story, really do like it. And I love the characters and the fact that they are a little older and are looking at things in a more mature fashion. The only drawback seems to be their reticence to voice their feelings to the other but it will happen when the time is right. Tina is being very mature about her feelings and what she should do about them. Her decision to see where this goes and whether or not she should transfer Bette to another therapist shows that she has ethics. Hopefully since Bette talked with Alice she will talk to Tina during the next session. Love the way you’re writing this. Happy Sunday. Post when you can.

    5. Yes NAG…you’re setting up the possibility to transfer her case! I loved Tina’s Mom’s response…shouldn’t everyone’s parents respond like that? Can’t wait until your next update…this is really getting good!

    6. LOL – judging from the comments, must be a lot of cringing psychologist’s reading this! I admit to being glad to see you are manouvering to get around the ethical issues – there is nothing that is more guaranteed to jar me out of a story than the proverbial “that would never happen IRL” – despite the fact this is fan fiction we have such high standards, LOL! LOVE this story, and it’s a measure of your skill as a writer how already the girls have such different personalities than in WOO. Nice that in this story Tina’s Mom has a healthy response to her lesbian/bi daughter.

    7. i don’t want to moan BUT do u think u could space between lines more. my eyes are having difficulty reading even with my glasses on. with the old firefox i could enlarge the text; with the new version i can’t…that’s progress for you!!!!
