“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to…”

“I’m sick of it, you know. All of you treating me like I don’t know anything and I’m this poor little newbie who can’t be sure she’s lesbian because she never kissed a woman.”

“You know that’s not true, Amy,” Shane said, hushing her. She threw me an angry look.

It was the first time Amy spoke her mind like that. It was a good thing, but I didn’t need it in the situation I was in.

“Come on, guys,” Al said. “We’re all a little edgy now. Let’s not fight each other, it’s gonna be fine. Nothing happened. Bette will be back and she will tell us what happened and she will kiss Tina and love her like she has done the past month. Right, Tina?”

“Right,” I whispered. How much I craved to believe Alices words, I had a bad feeling about it. We all looked up as Alices cellphone rang. She checked the caller ID and she immmediately picked up.

“It’s Bette!” she mouthed. I felt my whole body tensening, every muscle in my body was uptight. Alice listened and nodded, looking very serious.

“I’ll be right there,” she said before shutting her phone down. She turned to me and looked a little confused.

“She asked to meet me a few blocks away, alone. I don’t know what’s going on, Tina, but I’ll tell you as soon as I get back.”

“She doesn’t want to see me?” I had never felt so hurt in my life. How could Bette want to see Alice and not me? Alice, the big mouth that had a sixth sense for ruining moments. For a second, I loathed her. I loathed both of them. I was actually jealous of Alice. What the hell was going on that Bette felt more comfortable telling one of my friends than me?

“I don’t know, Tina, I really don’t. I promise you I’ll tell you as soon as I can.”

She stood up and took her coat. “I’ll see you soon. I’ll come back with good news, I promise.”

I couldn’t speak, so I barely nodded. When Alice shut the door behind her, I looked up at Amy and Shane. Amy was still in Shanes arms.

“I’m really sorry, Amy. I didn’t mean it like that.”

“It’s okay,” Amy smiled softly. “We’re all stressed here. It’s like it’s a football match or something,” she chuckled, than smiling nervously. I looked at her and Shane and thought to myself how good a match they would be.

Amy would be able to calm Shane down, to give her peace. Shane would help Amy to open up and really have fun. They were so different, but they would really fit together.

“So you two aren’t together?” I asked. “You would really be a great couple, you know.”

Both blushed. Something was definetly going on there.

“No, we’re not together,” Shane said. “What makes you think that?”

“My eyes and my mind.”

Right at that moment, Alice came in. She looked furious and there were tears in her eyes. I knew my fear had been true: something was wrong.
