    Home Part 14

Dana held Chris’ hand as they walked around the park. After one hour she guided him to one of the benches at the side. She passed him a bottle of water which he accepted gratefully and gulped down the content. Dana couldn’t help but to smile to herself. She exhaled as she thought of what she was going to tell Chris. She saw Chris wiped his mouth and thought is was the time.

“Hey Chris what do you think about our walk today?”

“Great.” Chris answered with a smile planted on his face.

“Would you like to walk with me more often? Like three or four times a week at least?”

“Yeah I like I like.” Chris was jumping up and down excitedly.

“Whoa slow down young man, you don’t wanna break the bench into two, do you?” Dana makes a funny face and Chris stopped his motioned and giggled.

    “So do you like me?”

“I like you Dana. You are my best friend.”

“Great to hear that.” Dana looked at those people who were taking their morning walk in the park. She thought deeply and gathered all the courage to go to the next conversation.

    “Hmm Chris?”

     “Yeah?”

    “We are buddies right?”

    “Yeah.”

“So I think I should tell you my secret.” Chris looked at Dana.

“Secret?” Chris shifted his position and was looking at Dana now.

    “Do you want to know?”

“Yeah.” Chris eyes and mouth were opened wide. Dana took her purse out and flipped it opened to review her ID.

“Here you are young man. This is my full name.” Chris looked at it and spelled out the alphabets.

    “D A N A for Dana.”

“Good. So what’s the next word?”

“F A I R for Fair.” Chris looked at Dana, Dana nodded encouragingly.

    “B A N K S for Banks.”

"So can you put them together now?” Chris nodded.

    “Dana Fairbanks.”

    “Yeah clever guy!”

Chris grinned from ear to ear after Dana praised him. But then…….

“Opppppsssss.” Chris put her hands on his mouth. Dana smiled and knew something was in his mind.

    “What’s up buddy?”

    1. I wouldn’t have known you had writer’s block based on this excellent chapter! I love Dana and Chris together. They are just too cute. I also love the relationship between Alice and Dana. They really seem to be trying to communicate and reconnect. The tennis player vs. journalist debate on Chris’ future will rage for many years, though, I’m sure. ;-D Thanks, uhhuh!!

    2. The conversation w/ Dana, Chris is so smart. It must have been hard for the 5 year old kid waking up at night to find his mother crying. Thanks uhhuh for this excellent chapter.
