    Her Guardian – Chapter 21

She checks several locations and has no luck finding Bette.  She calls Dana.

“Hey Tina.  Are you back from your parent’s?”

“Yes.  I’m trying to find Bette.  Do you know where she might be?”

“Hang on.”  Dana turns to Shane who’s there with her.  “Do you know where Bette is?  Tina is trying to find her.”

Shane takes the phone from Dana.  “Tina, she left work early today.  She said that she needed time to think.”

“Do you have any idea where she might be?  I need to talk to her Shane.”

“Have you tried to call her?”

“Yes.  I think her phone is turned off.  And she’s not at home.  I’ve been by most of her friend’s houses too.  I can’t find her.”

“Calm down Tina.  Let me try to find her.  I’ll call you if I do.”

“Thanks Shane.  Tell Dana bye for me.”

    “Ok, bye.  Be careful Tina.”

Shane tries to call Bette and it goes straight to voice mail.  She leaves her a message to contact her ASAP.  Then she calls a few of their other friends to see if anyone has heard from her.  No one has, not even Kit.

Bette has been driving aimlessly (or so she thought) for a couple of hours.  After she left the base, she went home and changed clothes.  She grabbed a bag with a change of clothes and a few things and drove away.

Bette did not realize that her cell phone battery had died, minutes after she left work.  Our heroine is always so together that something like that would not usually happen, but right now she has so much going on in her head that she has not paid attention to her cell phone.

She drives to Tina’s parents’ house.  She slows down as she drives by, not seeing Tina’s car in the driveway.  Susan is outside, working in the yard and spots Bette’s jeep driving by.  She waves at Bette and motions her to pull on in.

Shit, she saw me.  I can’t be rude and drive on by after she waved at me.  Bette pulls up into the driveway.  Susan walks up to the jeep.
