    Her Guardian – Chapter 20

The next morning Dana and Tina manage to drag themselves to work.  Neither of them looks or feels very well.  But Dana knew that Tina needed to do something besides sit home alone and cry all day.  So she made her get out of bed and get ready.

Bette is sitting in her office, going over paperwork.  Shane pokes her head in the door.  “Morning Bette.”  Shane surveys her appearance.  “You look like shit.”

“Morning Shane.  I feel like shit this morning.  But we all do what we have to do, don’t we?”

“Bette,” Shane pauses.  “I know what happened.”

    “What’s that Shane?”

“Bette, I was with Dana when she got your text.”

“Uh huh.”  Bette continues reading her paperwork.

“I was also with Dana when we found Tina sobbing in her living room floor.”

This causes Bette to look up.  She bites her lip as tears begin to roll down her face.  “Shane, I can’t do this right now.”

“Ok, fair enough.  Promise me we’ll go for a beer after work?”

“Ok fine,” Bette agrees.  Anything to end this conversation right now.

Shane walks away.  Bette turns to look at the picture of Tina on her desk.  The tears continue to flow down her face, as she takes the picture and puts it in her desk drawer.  Pull it together Porter.  You’ve got work to do.

Shane and Dana continue to text back and forth throughout the day.  They each learn that the other half looks and feels like shit.

After school, Dana takes Tina home.  “You feel like a nap?”

    “No.”

“Ok, you feel like talking about this?”

“What is there to talk about?”

“Tina, you love Bette and she loves you.  What is so hard about that?”

“Dane, you don’t understand.  You don’t know how scared I have been ever since her accident the other day.”

“No, you’re right I don’t.  But I do know that you can’t live your life in fear of what may happen.  You need to enjoy what you have while you have it.”

“Yeah Dane, but every time she goes out on a call, she’s risking her life.”  Tina thinks for a minute, “Do you know what the coast guard motto is?”

    1. Mom is always the smartest. My kids thought I was dump when they were grown up. Now with kids of their own. How did you do it and not kill us. Goget your woman Kennard. thanks

    2. VERY NICE chapter. I love how both friends tried to get B&T to broaden their thinking. Thank god for a mother’s touch. We all LOVE this story and although we would LOVE to read a new chapter every day, we understand that life can get in the way sometimes. My question is, if life gets in the way during the week, does that mean that we get two chapters on Saturday or Sunday?–LOL PPS :o).

    3. amen! So happy that Tina’s mom can get through to her. It’s unfortunate that Shane nor Dana could get through to their best friends! Stubborn! How we can anxiously await make up sex! 1st time sex!
