    Her Guardian – Chapter 20

    Dana shakes her head no.

    “So that others may live.”

“Tina, that’s an incredibly noble thing.”

“Fuck being noble!  I don’t care if the others live.  I want Bette to live.”

Dana decides to try a new tactic.  “Tina, do you like teaching?  Do you enjoy your job?”

    “You know I do.”

“How would you feel if Bette told you she wanted you to change jobs?”

“Why are you defending her?  You’re supposed to be my best friend?”

“I am sweetie.  I’m not defending anyone.  I’m just trying to get you to see things from her point of view.”

Across town, Bette and Shane are at Bette’s house.  “So you wanna tell me what happened?”

“She said that she couldn’t live with the fear that one day I go to work and don’t come home.”

“Did she break up with you?”

    “No.”

“Then what happened?  Why are we here like this?”

Bette pauses.  “I walked out on her.  I told her until she figured out if she could live with it, we shouldn’t see each other.”

“Way to go Porter.  What the fuck were you thinking?”

Bette looks at Shane like she’s crazy.

“You didn’t let her see if she could learn to deal with it, you just walked out?”

“Yes I did.  Shane, anybody could get killed on any day between work and home.  She’s being too emotional.”

“Because she loves you, go figure.”

“It could happen to anyone, on any given day.”

“Yes. I agree with you.  But you go out there every day and intentionally put yourself in harm’s way.  Try to see it from Tina’s point of view?”

“Why are you on her side?”

“I’m not on anybody’s side.  I just want you to try to see things through her eyes.  What if she was a police officer instead of a teacher?  Would you not be concerned for her safety every day when she goes to work?”

    “This is a stupid conversation.”

    “Bette, do you love Tina?”

    “You know I do.”

“Then why did you give up so easy?”

    1. Mom is always the smartest. My kids thought I was dump when they were grown up. Now with kids of their own. How did you do it and not kill us. Goget your woman Kennard. thanks

    2. VERY NICE chapter. I love how both friends tried to get B&T to broaden their thinking. Thank god for a mother’s touch. We all LOVE this story and although we would LOVE to read a new chapter every day, we understand that life can get in the way sometimes. My question is, if life gets in the way during the week, does that mean that we get two chapters on Saturday or Sunday?–LOL PPS :o).

    3. amen! So happy that Tina’s mom can get through to her. It’s unfortunate that Shane nor Dana could get through to their best friends! Stubborn! How we can anxiously await make up sex! 1st time sex!
