Heaven Can Wait – Episode 21: I Just Want You
Carmen: Then why…? Why put Lara through all that…?
Dana: …It wasn’t a matter of putting her though anything. I didn’t wanna hurt her again. And that night…at the party, I knew I did and I knew that I had to do something… Because seeing Lara hurt…it hurt me. I couldn’t let her go again… Because she never let me go… And…as long as she holds on to me…I’m not gonna let go of her. Even if it makes it look like something sick and twisted to you. It’s not…I love her, Carmen… And it feels like Al does just because she’s with us and with me. But I can tell, Carmen…
Carmen: …What?
Dana: …You do, too. Look…if…Lara leaves me and Al for you…I’m not gonna get in the way. If it’s one thing me and Al both want, it’s for Lara to be happy. Before today…we thought we had that figured out. Carmen…Lara has to be the one who lets go. I’m not gonna force her again. As long as she wants to be with us…that’s how it’ll be. But if not…then I can accept that.
Carmen: She’s so loyal to you…
Dana: …I know.
Dana’s eyes scream defeat in the realization.
Carmen: …I’m going to the car.
Dana: …Alright.
Carmen and Dana leave, eventually making their way to the parking lot where Alice, Shane and Tina await.
At the Planet, Kit seems relieved as she hangs up her cellphone. Bette and Jenny look on, waiting for the update.
Kit: Just got off the phone with Lara.
Jenny: Where is she?
Kit: She says she’s on her way home.
Bette: You didn’t fire her, did you?
Kit: No…I did tell her that next time she has a breakdown to call me first so I can get someone in here to substitute. She sounded….damn, she sounded like she been cryin’ all day.
Jenny: She’s probably got a lot on her mind.
Bette: I can imagine…especially with that mess she’s gotten herself into with Alice and Dana. I think it’s time for an intervention.
Jenny: A what?
Bette: I’m going to Dana’s house. Kit, you think Angus would be alright to watch Angelica?
Kit: Sure, just give him a call.
Bette: I will.
Jenny: So what are we intervening in?
Bette: The triangle. It’s gotta stop before it gets ridiculous and people get hurt.
Kit: Sounds a little late for the hurt part. You know what? Give me Angelica, baby sis. I’m-a go home and call it a day.
Bette: You sure?
Kit: Yeah.
Bette: Jenny, are you going to Dana’s? Maybe you can speak your mind on this as well.
Jenny: If…you think it will help…
Bette: Couldn’t hurt at this point.
Time passes and Alice, Dana, Shane and Tina are all inside Dana’s house. They’re hoping and waiting for Lara to arrive.
Carmen has felt distraught and hopeless since leaving the Country Club. All that surrounds her is but a mere blur. She parks her car and everything around her is still a blur. She leaves her car and enters the apartment building. She gets to her door and unlocks her way inside, opening the door. She sees light emanating from the living room and walks in that direction. Carmen sees her standing in the living room waiting for her. They stare at each other for a moment.
Carmen: Hi…
Lara: …Hi…
They meet with their arms wrapping around each other.
Carmen: Everyone’s been worried about you…
Lara: I didn’t mean to worry you…
Carmen: You worried everybody.
Carmen smiles, relieved just to see her. The feeling from Lara is mutual.
Lara: Carmen…
Carmen: Yes?
Lara: …The answer to your question…is You.
Carmen and Lara inch closer together, wanting to laugh, smile and cry all at once. Every emotion pours through their tongues as their lips meet, the tongues themselves soon following. At this moment, the rest of the World does not exist to them. It will be that way for the rest of the night.

Yes!! It finally happened! Love the pairing and love the story. I get the impression that Alice is also secretly in love with Lara, maybe even more so than with Dana…? Think of the friction! Can’t wait for the next post, thanks Kace.
I echo above comments, Dana: nice lame excuse, but at least you’re talking; Alice crushin’ on Lara a bit? And Lara maybe (gasp) ready to be happy with someonea and get the respect she deserves a la Carmen? And wait, is the ‘where it all began’ thing… Carmen herself? Or am I missing Lara’s ‘the answer to your question is you’ thing. I’m confused. But that’s OK, I often am. LOL. Please post soon and I love how this fic is unfolding. Very textured and just MARVY!
I love this story. Thank you so much. PPS
Great chapter as always! Hope you feel better soon and get the bug to post as much as possible. I can’t help but love this story.
That’s the wishy-washiest excuse for “having your cake and eating it too” *ever*, Dana. I can’t believe she’s disguising such selfishness as not wanting to hurt Lara. And Alice… I still don’t understand her deal. Those two deserve each other; Lara deserves better. Bette’s idea for an intervention might be a little too late, though. Seems like Lara’s made a choice? (I hope?) Urgh. Despite any um, obvious bitterness, I liked the chapter, Kace. Post when you can, and feel better soon. Cheers
Thanks for posting Kace! Always a pleasure to read your post.
Geez Kace your cold/flu sounds never-ending, Hope you’re out & about soon. Finally, Lara & Carmen get together. Luv how it was written. Shane’s realization that Carmen has moved on, lol.
