Alice eagerly added. “Everyone, the tune is “Simple Gifts,” from the Shakers. You know, those religious freaks who wouldn’t have sex and, duh, died out.”

Sonny began to sing in a strong baritone:
“I danced in the morning when the world was begun,
And I danced in the moon and the stars and the sun
I came down from heaven and I danced the earth
At Bethlehem I had my birth.”
Alice enthusiastically started the chorus a bit too early, but quickly corrected herself and the two sang:
“Dance, then, wherever you may be
‘I am the lord of the dance’ said he.
‘And I’ll lead you all
Wherever you may be
And I’ll lead you all in the dance,’ said he”
As they sang, both moved their arms, encouraging all to join. A few attempted, but the melody was too new for most.
Sonny began the second verse.
“I danced for the scribe and the Pharisee”
As he sang, he began to move at a stately pace, in time to the music. Alice saw, and did her best to do the same in the opposite direction.
“They would not dance and they wouldn’t follow me”
Sonny reached Kit and held out his hand. She took his hand and stood. He held her hand and his raised, as if they were the lord and lady of the manor, and they began to move around the room.
“I danced for the fisherman, for James and John
They came with me and the dance went on”
Alice reached Tasha and held out her hand.
Tasha scoffed, “You’ve got to be kidding.”
“C’mon Tasha.”
“Alice.”
“C’mon. It’ll be fun.”
Tasha turned to her friends, “If I go, you’re coming too.”
“Take your woman’s hand, girl.”
Tasha took Alice’s hand and grabbed one of her friend’s with the other. That friend grabbed another’s.
“Dance, then, wherever you may be
‘I am the lord of the dance’ said he.”
Kit reached where Angelica sat with Tina and Bette. She took her niece’s hand.

That was just as amazing and beautiful like your other stories. I have so missed your talented writing on this site. Can this be a possible return to the forum. I have so missed the “the wolve” story- “Backstory”. I was hoping that this was a version of that, but I am just as happy with the one I got.
