Early morning
At 6:30 a.m., Bette was in bed but wide awake. She could have slept, but she did not want to let go of the thoughts that filled her head. For the first time on this day in years, her sleepy head was full of happy, even joyous, thoughts. They slipped and slid, one into another, looping back, weaving in and out, no discernable connection except that they made her heart swell.
The prior few weeks had been filled with large and small pleasures. There was one that kept slipping in and out of Bette’s crowded brain. During one of its appearances, Bette grabbed hold of it and held it in place so that she could savor it. Her undisciplined thoughts jumped straight to the end of that story and Bette suppressed a laugh, but she wrestled those thoughts and held them in a head lock until she could organize them into chronological order.

November 29
“It will be fun,” Tina coaxed.
“If by fun, you mean excruciating torture, then I agree,” Bette replied as she filled her mug. She watched the brown liquid as it poured from the pot and then looked closely. She scowled. “I don’t see why I have to drink decaf just because caffeine makes you jittery.”
“It’s healthier.”
“Not if I’m sleepy at the wheel.”
“You are grumpy this morning.”
“Grumpy? Fine, I’m Grumpy and Sleepy. I may even be Sneezy, Doc, Dopey, Bashful and Clumsy. All Seven Dwarfs.”
“What about Happy?”
“Not without my morning caffeine.”
“There is no “Clumsy.”
“He fell into a hole in the forest just before the story began. Wouldn’t have happened if he’d had caffeine to keep him alert.”
“It’s half caf.”
“So I’m OK if I drink twice as much?”
Tina sighed, knowing that Bette would do just that. She returned to their original topic.
“You know it’ll be fun.”
“Maybe I would know if I had some real coffee.”

Early morning
Bette smiled at the memory, but realized that that was not the first scene. It had all actually begun a week even earlier. Bette reshuffled the thoughts she had corralled until she found the first in the string of events.

That was just as amazing and beautiful like your other stories. I have so missed your talented writing on this site. Can this be a possible return to the forum. I have so missed the “the wolve” story- “Backstory”. I was hoping that this was a version of that, but I am just as happy with the one I got.
