Rhaina turned away to hide the pain she had buried so deeply. She was not fast enough and everyone gasped in response to the searing pain.
“Rhaina…” Spock moved to stand behind her. His heart ached to have wounded her so deeply. He loved her and they had a good marriage. She had given him the most precious of gifts of herself. He could not dishonor her love and their life together. “Jim…James, you must withdraw your challenge. I cannot dishonor my wife.”
Kirk squared his shoulders he was ready for battle. Christina saw the gathering strength of a Kirk who would not be moved. It was the same strength she saw in her wife. For a moment she was disoriented as she remembered Elizabeth’s unwavering love for her no matter how impossible their union seemed. They were their fathers’ daughters and apples did not fall far from the trees that bore them.
“Spock of Vulcan” Kirk said softly. “I…will…not…yield…you.”
Christina was moving before he began to fall. Kirk and Rhaina moved too late. Elizabeth having witnessed a similar scene with Christina grabbed him first and broke his fall rolling with him to the floor. There was no telling what damage hitting the marble surface unchecked would have done.
Christina rolled her father off of Elizabeth and Rhaina and Kirk checked Spock who was unconscious.
“Spock?” Kirk touched him all over. “Spock!” He cradled him in his arms. “What happened?” He looked at Rhaina who was in shock. “Spock?”
“Overload” Christina replied hollowly.
“He is a man not a computer” Kirk spat in angry fear. “Spock?”
“He cannot hear you father” Elizabeth sat beside him. “It is true he is a man and not a computer. He is a Vulcan and not a Terran. I almost lost Christina this way. Strong impossible conflicting emotions are the one thing that can break a Vulcan.”
“He is Vulcan and Terran” Kirk asserted.
“He lives as a Vulcan” Rhaina whispered. “He loves us both and it is tearing him apart.”
Kirk assumed command. “Can he be moved?”
“Yes, Admiral.” Rau moved in.
Kirk waved her off. “I will carry him myself. Where is his chamber?”
“This way” Rhaina directed him to the chamber adjoining hers. Christina and Elizabeth followed.
Kirk laid him gently on the bed and removed his boots. He covered him and sat beside him and gestured for Rhaina to join him.
“Spock?” The Vulcan did not stir.
“Spock, even though you cannot answer me I know you can hear me.” He touched his lover’s face gently. “You have heard me from greater distances than this.” He smiled as the tears ran down his face. “The needs of the many…” he voice broke “outweigh the needs of the few…or the one.” He kissed his lips very tenderly and stood. “Live long and prosper, my love.”
Christina moved between Kirk and the exit. “You cannot leave him now.”
He turned and met her eyes. “I will never leave him. I just cannot be with him. I will give up everything except him. Do not worry Christina. I will never be in contact with him or your mother again. I will be content to know that he lives.”
“He would not want that. He wants you.”
“He wants your mother and me. He cannot reconcile himself to choosing so I will chose for him.”
“No, Kirk you will not” Rhaina interrupted the whispered conversation. “I will choose for my husband.”
“No you will not, second mother” Elizabeth spoke. “None of us will make a choice for my second sire. He will chose himself when he wakes and no one leaves.” She glared at her father.
Kirk looked at his daughter and turned from the door, which Rau now blocked as well.

Tough decisions tough decisions…
I have a feeling that it’s going to be a very very long day and night when and if Spock wakes up,,,,BTW the movie Star Trek was awesome!
Oh boy tough decisions indeed. This is like incest or something. I hope this can be resolved without much harm.Well if Spock chooses Kirk then Rhaina and Rau can be together.

Elizabeth was right, Kirk leaving would have solved nothing. Everyone’s got a stake in Spock’s choice… Hm, the only thing that needs to happen now is for Uhura to make an appearance… Great update, kel, thanks!

I am going on a school field trip and decided that I would buy cereal for a snack. I have always had a weakness for fruit loops. In the fruit loops package, I received my very own beam me up Scottie thingy. I feel very honored to own this item. I am glad that I am not in Spock’s position, but if he is anything like his Christina then he will come through this.
I miss this story…can’t wait to see what’s next.

kelika i just had to leave a comment. i came late to reading fanfic, just this year. your stories are absolutely brilliant i have loved reading every one of them . your writing is so mesmerising . i was never into star trek , had it been like this then i would so have been. anyway please finish this story its just to good to be left unfinished i hope you return one day. i so wish you could have written season 6 . living in anticipation. once again your writing is brilliant.

HMMM, yes it seems very incestuous but spock and kirk are not blood relatives. i’m sure they’ll find a way to sort it out without too much damage. Rau is verp protective and patient so looking 4ward when she gets a chance to consummate her love for Rhaina. they r all very noble people. i like that. thx as always for an intriguing chapter. much love.

Holy crap! Spock needs advise from some lesbians. We never know how and when to let go! Then he will see that it is right and good to let go of Rhaina now so she too can be free to find her great love, just as he has found in Kirk. Poor Spock…What a ting!!! A male suffering a complete breakdown and emotional overload when faced with making a difficult choice. Hmmm. Now why does that sound so familiar? I hope he has the gumption to wake up and face the reality of the situation he’s helped create. I’m sure the outcome will be nowhere as bad as he imagines. Rhaina has lived with the fact of Spock’s love for Kirk for so long… I’m sure she’s looking forward to exploring a new love and life with Commander Rau.
