Coming up for air – part eight
Tina heard the front door slam hard and let out a breath of relief. She didn’t really have to work that night. The grant application was almost done, she only needed to look over it once more and then e-mail it to the office. She knew that this ongoing conflict with Henry at least in part had to do with Bette. Tina was tired beyond belief of her partner assuming that she would happily tag along where ever he… or she went. Bette had made the same assumptions that Henry was now repeating and she was having none of it any more.
She closed the laptop and went to take a shower. As the room steamed up and the hot water made her relax, the anger evaporated. She closed her eyes and saw Bette’s blushing face before her, telling her that she still looked like an angel. She couldn’t help the giggle that escaped her lips at the thought of how Bette had always revealed her more sentimental side around Tina. She had adored this part of Bette, knowing that she was the only one who got to experience it. She hated to admit it, but the fact that it was still so made her incredibly happy. When Tina was completely honest with herself she knew that at that moment, she had wanted to kiss Bette. She had wanted to lean in and brush her lips against Bette’s wounded lips. She had wanted to make it all better like only she used to know how.

Alice, Shane, Carmen, Jenny, Dana and Kit all arrived at Bette’s house at seven o’clock. The house filled with voices of happiness and laughter. Bette hung back in the kitchen secretly enjoying that her friends were still there for her. She had missed them more than she’d realized. Alice joined Bette in the kitchen. She was looking at Bette as if she wanted to say something but couldn’t find the words. They stood in silence watching each other.
“Come here, you crazy woman…” Bette said and pulled Alice into her arms. Alice was desperately trying to swallow the lump in her throat. She really wasn’t capable of saying anything.
“I missed you, Al…” Bette whispered. Alice grunted something unintelligible as a reply.
Dana walked in with two bottles of wine in her hands. “Oh, sorry…” she said when she realized that she had interrupted a tender moment between the two friends.
“It’s ok, Dana… I was just letting Al know that I’ve missed our Sunday dinners,” Bette smiled and let go of Alice.
“Yeah, thank God you came in here, Dana… Bette was totally taking advantage of me…” Alice grinned finally finding her voice again.
“… ok….?” Dana smiled looking from Bette to Alice with an amused expression on her face.
“Bette, thanks for the offer… but been there, done that… right? And by the way my girlfriend is an ass-kicking athlete so you might wanna think it over before you put your paws on me again…” Alice laughed and looked at Dana with pride.
“Awww Al…. you think I’m an ass-kicking athlete? Thanks babe…” Dana giggled before kissing her girlfriend.
“Al… don’t flatter yourself. But just for the record, you both know that I kick ass better than anybody in town… so don’t even go there….” Bette laughed and winked at Alice.
Shane peeked into the Kitchen, “are you guys coming…? I’m hungry as hell…” she said.
“Yes, we’re coming…” Bette said and handed Dana the corkscrew. She smiled to herself as she realized, she couldn’t remember the last time she felt this good.

I don’t think you can post soon enough. I love the stories that I can say ” If only IC would think this way” Thank you!
All most makes me ill to think of wasted love. That is what is happing to those two. Tina shouldnt still be angry with Bette because of Candace, she should be glad that Bette even talks to her. After leaving Bette her action was up to par Nor living with someone because she loves his child.and not him////// Thanks for posting thanks PPS
WOW… but i have a few more words today… i love how they both know what the other is doing… even if they don’t know it themselves… i am so glad bette got up to take a look… and now i hope the healing begins… and they remember they were the best of friends first and then lovers… thanks.. and please post soon
Awwwwwwwww…I love “LOVE STORIES”!
WOW!!! Just a great chapter. thanks PPS
There’s so much potential for them… and given the circumstances (hot women in wet clothes that simply MUST come off), I think there are possibilities… ;) Sorry. They should talk. Or something. But this is a definite step for them.
Damn just getting caught up and this is great story. Tina is finally realising everything!!!This maypan out on the show as well. Post soon please.
Tina finally made her way to what use to be her home, cold wet and scared out of her mind. Bette did the right thing by going to her and trying to calm her. Maybe now they can start to put some of the pain behind them.
Arrr! I need more damn it. Great chapter.
she was cold ans wet and just plain scared.(Rocky Horror, sorry) That was another awesome chapter. Levity or not – still going on the ride. Thanks for takin the time.
Just caught up with your story – and it is AWESOME. So full of emotion and I love that both of them are having to get honest with themselves in order to find their way back.. Very very sweet and yet there’s an aching vulnerability to how they let it all fall apart. Thanks so much for sharing your writing with us.
awesome!
finally tina realized that her and bette will never be over, hopefully it will get better fot them from now on
the ending was great, a strong caring bette , vulnerable tina, tell AL to shut the f.. up, she can be so insensitive..pps
I love this story…Henry’s days are numbered. I thought Tina was going to see the cars and hear the laughter and leave cause she didn’t want to face her friends. I wonder how long it will take Bette to clear the room cause Tina is probably not gonna want to talk to everyone right now. They belong together they need to REALLY talk…this can be fixed…fix it anker.
These two are so connected, it just sad that they don’t realize how much they need each other. I think Tina is at a point where her heart is hurting so bad, that she just needed to see Bette. I’m so glad Bette found her outside and brought her in. Hopefully, she will stay for dinner and be with her friends. Let the healing begin!! LOL! PPS.
sweeeett
Awww, thanks for the chapter. It seems so full of vulnerability, please continue!
well done to Tina she had the courage to go to see Bette, and Bette is so sweet she told her T! i hope this will help her to start the reconcilation process
