Chapter 7 – Beach Party and Welcoming

Bette:  Kit, have all the kids settle into their rooms?

Kit:  Oh, yes, they feel like royalty now. They love the fact that they have a whole house to themselves for two whole days. They have enjoyed the accommodations this week but this is truly a treat for Shay, Jordan and Holly.  And the fact that they have access to the pool and the beach and yet have a good deal of separation from their parents is really wonderful.  They seem to forget that Sonny and I are around to keep a lid on things.

Sonny:  They are all well-mannered and smart kids. I don’t think they are likely to cause any trouble.  I think they have enjoyed the company and their somewhat independence from their parents this week. It’s just different for them all. I think it’s matured all them frankly.  They see the comradery of their parents and they see how much their parents contribute to the benefit of the group and they see how much it’s appreciated.  The friendship their parents have with their peers is something they all want for themselves.

Sonny: Shay has done a lot to show them how fortunate they all are.  He remembers the days when he was neglected and how Shane has always been there to provide for him. Shane and Bobbie are very special people in his life and they always will be. Jordan has been in the household for 9 almost 10 years, so he doesn’t remember much about his life without Shane.  Holly?  I’m not sure what Holly’s home life is like. But she has been attentive to everyone in the group. Of course, Angie and Daniel have no idea what it’s like not to have two very attentive and caring parents. So, Shay’s experiences have shown them how fortunate they really are. And they are absorbing every bit of that information. This may be the most important lesson Angie and Daniel learn this summer. And they have learned it without having to experience it which is a plus.

Bette:  Thanks Sonny.  This is good to know. Just remember. You and Kit are the boss in that house. You do whatever you need to do to maintain your level of comfort with this group. If you think we need to step in, let us know.  Bobbie and Shane stand ready to handle whatever they need to and Tina and I will too.
