Chapter 21 – I BET She’s Hella Sexy
Oscar and Esai observed the exchange between the women as if it were a tennis match. It was Jodi’s serve.
“Hmm.” Jodi’s brow gathered as if in deep thought. “Mind telling me why on earth your label would sign a couple of cokeheads like Gabby Deveaux and Nadia Miertschin then?”
Point, Lerner. Kennard at the service line. “Maybe you haven’t turned on your radio lately, Jodi. Gabby and Nadia now have the number…seven?” She asked looking to Esai for help.
“Seven,” he assisted quickly.
“Right, the number seven single on the Billboard charts. As far as Alphaville is concerned they’re not a big liability. In fact, the label has been so impressed with their rapid rise to stardom that we’ve amended their contract to include a big bonus if it sees platinum sales.”
2 points, Kennard.
“Ahh, yes. I spoke with Tim today. That amendment was no thanks to you, right Tina? Yeah, I told Tim not to get his hopes up. They’re nothin’ but One Hit Wonder…Women.”
Game. Set. Match, Lerner.

The Planet Parking Lot
Bette pulled her black Cadillac into the parking lot and parked next to a charcoal gray Toyota Prius.
She stepped out of the vehicle and walked towards the front entrance around the corner. There was a light air about her, and with each click of her heels on the concrete, she bounced a bit. Since leaving the office, she couldn’t wipe the smile off her face.
Heading straight for the bar area, she noticed a few tables still occupied by the dinner crowd. As people left, the servers began rearranging the tables and chairs to make room for the makeshift dancefloor. Wednesdays were typically Kit’s karaoke night, but since rehearsals had taken up the last four weeks of her time, she was able to get Ivan Aycock to temporarily fill in for her.
The bartender noticed Bette and greeted her. “Hey stranger, Marina’s got your order ready. She’s in the back office if you wanna just come on through.” He lifted the divider to allow Bette to pass.
“Thanks, Billie.” She walked directly to Marina’s office. “Hey!” she said as she entered.
“Bette! Good to see you. Max said the cameras are up and running.” Marina stood and greeted Bette with a kiss on the cheek.

May i say that i hated character Jodi most in TLW. Even more than Candance or Henry or, i don’t know – Kelly. I don’t know why – maybe because for me actress, who played her really unattractive and see her and JB together it’s absolutely unrealistic. And plus of course i don’t like all characters, who dated with Bette or Tina:)
Isn’t Oscar just great? Quick thinking to prevent Jodie to pay their bill.
Love the play with words with ‘Bette/bet’. Too cute how Tina’s mind is subcontiously busy with thinking of Bette.
Another great chapter, MeLL
As a matter of shameless self-promotion, I posted a fic many moons ago entitled “A Losing Bet(te)” when I foolishly made a bet on a sports event with another writer around these parts. I’m sure you can gather the gist of it from the title alone. =)
