C O U N T D O W N: Missing Hours

”E N D O C R I N E system, with an e. Goddammit! I should fucking bill you people at this point for being so stupid and wasting my time! If I knew where to send an invoice I absolutely would. Give me your business card, please.”
I lean over snapping my fingers together and opening my hand for someone’s business card. ”It would be for $800 by the way. I’m four hundred an hour, when not in surgery. You, and Agents 1 through 5, need to sharpen up, because I’m leaving here in five minutes. Non-negotiable.”
Then the only woman on their team takes over. ”Okay, Doctor Porter, we realize you’re a specialist with years of experience and training.”
She’s the one who coaxed me into the car to begin with.
”I will kick right through that door with these boots. I hope you’re hearing me.”
”I’m hearing you.” She nods and sends me – what must pass for an sympathetic look in the intelligence community – a softening of her eyes that only makes her look sleepy.
”Then pay closer attention because this is my last lesson on the subject of the deterioration of cognitive function.” I lean forward and tick off the issues to make my point. ”Is one lie a symptom of deterioration?” I hold up one finger. ”The answer would be no. Are five Trump lies a symptom of a something being off cognitively?” I hold five fingers up. ”How about a hundred? Or a thousand?”
At this point, I’m feeling deranged.
”Are conspiracy theories a symptom of psychosis? Is bullying and incessant ridicule a sign of mental trouble? Is threatening people? How about sexually assaulting women and kidding about it? Is that troubling enough for you?”
”People who know him say that’s his personality. He’s a bullying-type of guy. I don’t see how that can be proof of mental instability.”
”To you hurting people intentionally is a sign of mental stability?”
”I did not say that.”
”But you did just say that! You dismiss every symptom I point out as non-problematic for a world leader to possess. Otherwise you would get on the phone and begin, what I would hope would be, a rapidly escalating series of steps to stop Trump from taking office!”

You write Bette so well. What a great chapter and very hot! Thanks for posting so soon!
Very kind of you to say! I’m very pleased with the story. Once I tried writing Bette using the third person narrator and the muse refused. She’s either in my ear on headphones, or there’s silence. I do, however, get to pick the pictures.
Command, i am glad that you get to pick the pictures, they are absolutely stunning. Esspecially the picture from Nightingale. I admire horses for their strenght, beauty and kind heart.
The way you write Bette is very interesting and i love it!
One question, the picture from the woman , do you know the real name of her? She seems familiar, but it isn’t Laurel Holleman?
Thank you for the incredible chapter!
The actress Julianne Moore is the TV pundit in this story. Pleased that you enjoy the pictures, so delighted you found the chapter incredible. I’m pleased with it and it was very fun to write!
Hi, Command:
Nice story and nice characterization of Bette Porter, but you left us in the middle of “something”, and in an odd place with someone, I would never guess, isn’t it Julianne Moore? Well anyway, I like your story and I’ll wait for your update. Thanks
P
Yes, Bette showed us emotional range in that last chapter, from confidence to vulnerability… and more. In writing its conclusion I’d felt to extend that last scene with conversation between the two lovers would have taken the energy I’d built and brought it too quickly back to reality. To me, I like that we’re still imagining them in Room 303 at the Tabard Inn. In story time, it’s still the middle of the night so, anything is possible.
Loved the chapter and Julianne Moore is a beautiful woman and wonderful actress but, she is no Laurel Holloman. Bette should always be in the arms of Tina Kennard. Will we ever see Tina for Bette, really hope so. Ir would have been wonderful for America and the world if something like this had really happened and none of us would have to be living with what we are in the Presidency. Really enjoy your writing. Thanks for posting.
Let’s get Bette involved in the journalistic world of behind the scenes sources first. She’ll be furious, once Trump gets elected, and I imagine her focus will be directed toward women’s rights, science and technology fund cutting measures, climate denying Cabinet members and reams of their environmental rollbacks and replacement bills. All of this will upset her.
I’d love for Bette to meet Tina at the Women’s March. In story time that march is six days away.
Maria, the TV pundit and journalist, is a wonderful character and companion for Bette – to knock Bette back into the game-on mood for sexual dalliances.
Tina, as a heartful, but nonetheless crafty head of an NGO will be needed, as the story of Docter Porter’s deepening involvement — in what she views as a “nightmare presidency” unfolds.
I hope we all will learn from the backroom intel, she and others will be gathering. Cool themes about medical science, (you know she’ll be hot-headed on the threats of cutbacks to research, the environment and women’s issues.)
This narrative setting of Washington under crisis is target rich for storytelling.
If you can, please enjoy Julianne Moore as a juicy lover for Doctor Porter’s enjoyment at the moment, and let’s what happens…
I truly appreciate your comment.

Nice update. Thanks
