Roxanne:  “Harm you have to be kidding me.”

Harmony:  “What?  I’m not doing anything.”

Roxanne:  “Precisely.  We have to do this project together.  You cannot slack off now due to personal reasons.  Shit look at me.  I’m still working.”

Harmony knew what she meant.  Even though Harmony knew how Roxanne felt, they were still best friends.   Harmony had to talk about her feelings tot some one.

Harmony:  “Sorry Rox I just can’t seem to get it together.   This love stuff sucks.”

Roxanne:   “Tell me about it.”

Harmony:  “Roxy.   Why are you still my friend?   You told me you loved me and I couldn’t reciprocate.  Why do you stay?”

Roxanne:  “I don’t know.  You’re my best friend.  I love you.  True love doesn’t run.”

Harmony was flabbergasted.

Roxanne:  “And I guess deep down I’m hoping you come around.  But even if you don’t, I’m not going to leave.  We’ve been through too much.  This is just one more thing.”

Harmony didn’t grasp how deep Roxanne’s love was for her.  She felt horrible about this whole situation.  She wanted to love Roxanne but she was just too in love with Bette.  She just sat and stared off into nothing again.  It seemed to be the only place she was safe.  She looked at her watch.

Roxanne:  “Gotta be some place?”

Harmony:  “Huh?   Oh no.its nothing.”

Roxanne knew she was lying.

Roxanne:  “No, what is it?”

Harmony:  “Nothing.  Just Bette should be at her UCLA meeting by now.   I wonder how its going.”

Roxanne knew she should have left it alone.  She was in agony watching this.   She loved Harmony very much and it hurt her to see her in pain.  She loved her too much to allow this to go on.   Harmony wasn’t changing her mind anytime soon.  Roxanne knew what she had to do.

The meeting with UCLA went pretty good.  They seemed to really like her.  She signed the official contract.  She was going to do art history lectures twice a week.  It was perfect.  It wasn’t every day so she still had plenty of time with Angelica and since it was a lecture course there wouldn’t be a bunch of papers to grade.  Just a mid-term, term paper, and a final.  That was it.  This was the perfect situation.  Bette wanted so much to call Harmony, thank her again, share her good news, tell her how much she loved her, but she couldn’t.  She hadn’t worked up enough nerve to.  She decided to share her good news with Kit at the planet and grab some lunch.
