Becoming Dana Fairbanks Chapter 23
“Eh, don’t say it,” Dana interrupted. “Harrison has been my doubles partner since freshmen year, and I’m not going to change it.”
Seeing the resolution on the athlete’s face, her coach let out a sigh and a soft chuckle, “That’s one of the thing I like about you Fairbanks, your sense of loyalty.”
“Thanks coach. Is that all?”
“Yes, I want you to seriously think about getting a manager before the tournament in January. I can suggest a few people. Sam knows some people. But really, I wish I could say that being a professional athlete is only about playing your sport well. But it is not. There are a lot of ins and outs and like it or not you are going to need sponsors to help you pay tournament fees and travel until you actually start getting paid to play. Understand?”
“Yes,” Dana nodded already thinking about how everything was going to start piling up real soon now that the added task of finding a manager has been placed on her never ending list of things to do.
“Okay, we are done. My door is open if you have any questions. Here is a list of some good places to start,” he said handing Dana a file.
As Dana reached for the file, the coach got a good look at her hand.
“What happened to your hand,” he asked worriedly?
Looking down as the appendage in question Dana shrugged. She had completely forgotten about it, as the throbbing had subsided by the time she had left the Planet before heading over to the team meeting.
“A… nothing coach really…”
“It doesn’t look like anything to me Dana…”
“Coach I swear on Wimbledon, it’s nothing.”
Reluctantly, he let it slide and only because he didn’t think the young athlete was lying to him. “Okay. I will see you at practice tomorrow then.”
“I’ll see you at practice.”
**
“I wish I could have been there this morning when you clocked the bastard,” Harrison said wistfully after Dana finished explaining to my the events of the last 12 or so hours.. “I could have recorded it for posterity you know?”
“Yeah well, it was stupid. I lost my temper and I could have really screwed up a lot of things. What if I broke my hand or something,” Dana replied, echoing Alice’s comments to her in the bathroom earlier.

LOL at the planet scene. Haha, Dana Ali! I hope her hand would not give her any trouble. How wonderful it was to have the coach looking out for her interest. I am so glad that D insisted on having Harrison as her partner. That’s our Dana!! Hopefully this time, Harrison’s words would get through D’s thick head. I must agree with Harrison that A & D were the cutest couple in LA. LMAO! anionayo, thank you very much as always.
I just found this fic, and I love it!Some Danish goodness for us deprived fans. Was that a ref to animaniacs last chapter?I used to love that show!Alice and Dana need to pick up the pace. make out already! Thanks for writing this great story, hope the updates keep coming!
New chapter. Yay! I love how accepted Dana is by the group and that she realizes how special it is. I was a little nervous about what the coach had to tell Dana — I’m glad it was all good. She seems to be in good hands there. I love Dana’s loyalty, too. Harrison is a good friend. He feels close enough to tease, but, also knows when to stop and offer support. I hope it sinks in with Dana that Alice is interested in her. Thanks for the great update, anionayo!!
