You Only Live Once – Why Not Enjoy It – (Chapter: 14 – Awakening)

She was breathing on her own and her heart beat faintly but steadily…

Kasey always believed that when her time came her mother would be waiting for her with open arms.  She imagined that her Grandmother would be smiling from ear to ear eagerly holding a six pack of Molson and ready to watch a basketball game with her granddaughter.  It’s thoughts like these that reassured her that death was nothing to be afraid of but was a gift of sorts that reunited you with your loved ones.

However, the two people who meant so much to her were nowhere to be seen…that is until a whisper shook her from the silence that had encased the room.

“Don’t you look grown up.”  The voice was gentle and lulling; a tone she hadn’t heard in several years and held a slight Italian accent that still made her smile without even trying.

Kasey sighed.  She was afraid to turn around but she had to…she simply had to.

Slowly she leaned back onto her heels and swiveled to face the woman she had so dearly longed to gaze upon.  Her features were delicate and soft as her long auburn hair flowed freely behind her.  She hadn’t changed a bit.  Even the blue sun dress that she had last worn before she passed was now accenting the curves of her slender tanned body once again.

Kasey choked back a tear and stared in awe.  She was never fully prepared for the day to come when she would be standing face to face with her “Mom.”  She stated simply.

Katrina Dennison; loving mother to Kasey, devoted wife to Peter.  She was a woman whose life was ended abruptly because of a mistake that someone else had committed; an accident that could have been easily avoided.

Her mother nodded subtly, keeping her arms at her sides as she took in the sight of her daughter.  Kasey stood motionless, desperately afraid to blink and lose the woman before her for a second time.

“Are you ready?”  Her mother’s calming voice reassured the short haired brunette.  Kasey swallowed hard.  “Ready?  For what?”  A single tear crept from the corner of her eye down to her rosy cheek.

    7. Wow, my heart was broken and mended in one event filled chapter. Miracles happen everyday and I’m thankful for them. Kasey lives, Paula forgives, Spencer & Ashley love freely without judgement, Aiden’s prayers were answered, Kyla & Kasey are allowed to share their love without the the shadow of death looming over them & we your readers can breathe a sigh of relief for such a happy ending. Thank-you, for such a beautiful, heartrending story that captured the essence of love and hope. P.S. I would like to see an annual camping trip…perhaps another chapter would be great.
