The Wheels That Keep Turning – (Chapter: Chapter 5)
“It’s fine.”
“Is it?” She laughs and pecks my lips a few more times.
“Bye.”
“Shit.” I watch my DVD collection crash to the floor.
“You okay?” Toni comes into my bedroom after hearing the DVD’s fall.
“I’m fine.” I mumble. Toni ignores me, walks over, bends down and starts picking up the DVD’s and putting them back on the shelf.
“Do you want to talk about?” She has no idea what ‘it’ is, but she knows me enough to know that there is an ‘it’.
“Not yet.” I sigh. “Thanks.” I say after she’s done picking up the DVD’s.
“Okay…let’s…” She get’s cut off when my phone starts ringing. I look down and check the collar I.D., even thought I feel like shit right now, I smile. “Spencer?”
“Spencer.” I reply while answering the phone.
“Hey.” Her shy voice greets me. “I um…I was just calling to see if you are okay.” Pause. “Are you okay?”
This is the first time we talked since last night. Last night when I semi, freaked out on her.
“I’ll live, but I’m not going to be the most pleasant person to be around today.”
“So…you’re not having lunch with me today?”
“I think I’m going to skip lunch all together today.”
“Oh.” She gets quiet.
“Yeah, look” I sigh and glare at my nosy best friend until she gets the hint and leave my room, closing the door behind her. “I feel real bitchy right now. I don’t want to push that on to you, so I’m just going to relax at home. Maybe sleep a little.”
“If that’s what you feel you need to do.” She doesn’t say it with attitude. She speaks with an understanding tone.
“I’ll text you or something later.”
“Okay. Bye.”
“Bye.” I sigh and hang up.
When I wake up, the first thing I notice is that there’s a plate sitting on my bedside table, with a piece of paper sticking out from under it. Next to the plate is a little juice box, that looks like it could only fill up the stomach of a two year old. But it’s cute. On the plate are two perfectly put together ham sandwiches. I take my time and use my arm strength to push myself up into a sitting position.
I get giddy when I see Spencer’s hand writing on the paper when I unfold it.
Ashley
Hi.
I don’t think it’s healthy to skip lunch. Even if you’re not up for having it with me I wanted you to have something to eat .Toni let me in while she was on her lunch break .I hope you don’t mind that I ate my lunch in your living room. I don’t think I left any crumbs on your couch…anyway…I hope you feel better soon. I’m free later…if you need or want some company…
As you can see I’m not as good as you with writing letters so…I’m just going to end both our suffering right now. J
Your secret, not so secret admire, turned girlfriend.
Spencer.
Smiling, I fold the paper back up. This is the first time either one of us put a title on our relationship. I’m glad it was her to do so. It makes me more confident in our relationship. Now I just have to explain my freak out over the DVD she picked and hope she can understand.
