The Wheels That Keep Turning – (Chapter: Chapter 5)

“What’s taking so long?” Toni comes into my bedroom.

“Hold your horses. We’re coming.” I watch Asia and Spencer look through the DVD and discuss a little. Spencer pulls one out why Asia puts back the ones she pulled out.

“How about this?” When I see what she’s holding up, my smile leaves and the happy feeling I had goes down to sad.

“No.” I say firmly. “Put it back.” She just stares at me for a minute, before putting the movie back.

“Okay.” She sighs and nods at whatever movie Asia holds up. I guess everyone, but me, agree on the movie, because they all file out into the living room.

I start to wheel myself into the living room, but Spencer pops back into the room.

“Are you okay?” She asks. “I’m sorry if…”

“I’m cool…we’re good.” I smile sadly at her. She stares at me for another minute before we join my best friend and cousin in the living room.

“Ash…seriously…” Toni throws a chip my way. “I thought Asia was annoying. Stop fidgeting.

“I’m tired,” Spencer says five minute later. She lets her hand slip out of my loose hold.

“You’re leaving?” I ask watching her collect her belongings.

“Yeah.” She sighs and says goodbye to the other two people in the room. I follow her out of the apartment.

“What’s up?” I ask once we’ve been in silence a minute to long.

“I don’t know.” She sighs and looks at me while biting her lip. “I guess I just feel like you don’t really feel like having company right now.”

    “It’s not you.”

“But I’m right.” She raises an eyebrow. “You’re not in the mood for company anymore?”

“No. I’m not.” Why lie. I don’t want to bring her down by talking about what bothering me, and I don’t want to be rude by ignoring her. It’s only been a couple of days after our date. I don’t want to ruin us before we even really began.

    “Okay. I’ll see you tomorrow?”

    “Yeah.”

    “Okay.” She turns to leave.

“Wait.” Spencer stops and turns back around to face me. “I need a hug…a kiss or something.” She smiles and walks back over and bends down to kiss me.

“Mmmm…it’s so not you.” I mumble against her lips. “I’m sorry if I’m coming off as a bitch.”
