The Wheels That Keep Turning – (Chapter: Chapter 5)

Have you ever had one of those moments when you just knew you had to have someone in your life? A moment where they just said or did something that made you go ‘this person is someone I want to have in my life.’ Like if all you could ever be to them is a friend you would be okay with that, because just a little is better than nothing at all.  That’s how I feel when I’m around Spencer. She gives me this calm I never had before. She does and says the simplest things.

“Are you okay?” Spencer asks, sitting her fork down.

We’ve been at dinner for an hour now. It’s going great. Conversation is flowing easily between us, like always. The food and the help have been great.  A great first date.

    “There’s a ramp outside.” I state.

We’re at the same restaurant that she selected when we first went out to dinner. The restaurant with the evil stairs.

    “Okay?” She raises an eyebrow.

“Thank You.” Spencer shrugs and smiles shyly at me.

When I drove up and saw that ramp, I had my moment for Spencer. That was the moment I knew she was a keeper. Just the fact that she cared enough to make sure I was comfortable. I’ve had girlfriends and friends take me to other places that could work around my disability. But not Spencer. That ramp means to me that Spencer want to work with my disability.

“Gosh…” I run my fingers through my hair. “Can I ask why?”

“This is one of my favorite restaurants.” She smiles and let her eye’s take a quick glance around the room, before landing back on me. “I want to be able to share this with you. I want other people to be able to share a nice evening with someone they enjoy being around too.” She shrugs.

“Eww….you are so nasty!” Spencer squeaks when I cheer on the man on Fear Factor to eat the cockroaches. That’s right. We’re at my apartment watching old shows, on my old TV.

“Hey you’re missing it…” I fight with Spencer to move her hands out of her face.

“Stop…” She laughs and pushes my hands away.

“Okay…” I let her go after much yelling and slaps to the arm.
