“Is she back yet?”  Sam asked.

“Yes, but I think I need to ask if she wants to talk to you.”  Ashley said.

Before Sam could respond, Taylor had come out of her room.  “Who’s at the door?”  Taylor asked.  She stopped dead in her tracks when she saw who it was.

“Sam.”  She asked looking hard at the girl.  She couldn’t believe it.  Spencer couldn’t either.

“Can we talk?”  Sam asked.

“Yeah.  Follow me.”  Taylor said turning and walking towards her room.

Ashley just shut the door and looked at Spencer.

“She came here earlier?”  Spencer asked.

“Yeah.  I didn’t tell Tay because I didn’t want her to get her hopes up.”  Ashley said.

“I get it.”  Spencer said pulling Ashley back down to her on the sofa.  “Let them talk. You just hold me.”  Spencer said smiling at her.

Taylor and Sam sat in Taylor’s room silent for a moment.  Taylor looked up at Sam who was studying the picture of them that was on the table.

“What took you so long?”  Taylor finally asked.

“I was afraid.”  Sam said.

“Afraid?  Are you kidding me?  You broke my heart twice Sam. Then, I put myself on the line for you and you ignore me.  Then, you leave me some letter, and you don’t come back for two years.  Two fucking years Sam.”  Taylor yelled beginning to cry.

“Please don’t cry Tay.  I can’t watch that.”  Sam said.

“This is all you make me do.  Every single fucking time you are involved, I end up crying.”  Taylor said.

“You know that I wouldn’t have moved to Florida if I had the choice, but I didn’t.  I’m sorry that I stopped calling, but I was hurting too.  I needed you, and I couldn’t have you.  So, I just figured that neither one of us would move on if we kept talking.  I’m sorry I hung up on you.”  Sam said kneeling down in front of Taylor.

“Why?”  Taylor asked.

“Why what?”  Sam asked.

“Why’d you hang up?”  Taylor asked looking down.  She was bracing herself for the answer.  Half of her wanted to know.  The other half of her didn’t want to know at all. 

“I was just scared.  I was terrified of everything that you said.  For so long, that is what I wanted to hear.  But, I just couldn’t then.”  Sam said.
