ohio_qte: awesome. ttyl!
ashrocksit: later!
I was glad to get a chance to repay her for last night. I signed off and walked back into the living room. I picked up the remote as I plopped down on the couch. There was absolutely nothing to watch so it seemed like the perfect time for a nap. Just as I was drifting off my phone started vibrating on the coffee table. The sound it made against the glass gave me the goosbumps. I picked it up and switched the ringer and silenced it as I looked at the screen: Incoming call: Starfucks. My life is aweessomme. I thought to myself. The last two calls I’ve had are from a girl prior to breaking up with me, aaaannnd my job, which I couldn’t hate more. I didn’t bother answering. After forgetting all about going back to work yesterday, I decided that I probably had already lost the job. That was definitely strike three..scratch that, more like strike one hundred and three. That was alright. Guitar gigs at different bars kept the wallet satisfied and my mom never failed to send a check to cover the rent each month. A little reminder to show that "she cared". Whatever. As long as the landlord didn’t come breaking down the door and I had food on my plate I was happy.
Now that my nap had been interrupted I decided to rummage through the fridge, even though I already knew there would be a 99% chance of not finding anything good. I grabbed a water and sat back down on the couch. I looked up at the clock above the TV. 3:30. I sat and thought about what Spencer and I could do tomorrow. I had to figure out something so that I could call her before it got too late. I assumed she wasn’t much of a drinker, but that didn’t mean we couldn’t hit up a club or two. I could introduce her to Kat, and maybe a few other friends. I vowed to myself that I wouldn’t touch a drink, hoping that she’d like a sober version of myself much better than a drunken or hungover one. Maybe if she was in the mood to eat before, we could go for some dinner, maybe Chinese or Italian. I’d let her decide on what to eat, but I’d decide where we’d go. You have to be a townie to know where to get the best grub around here.
I took a sip of my water and decided to give Kat a call back. She didn’t pick up so I decided to leave message, short and sweet just to let her know that I was safe and appreciated her looking out for me. Now that I’d figured out what I’d be doing tomorrow I decided to plan out something fun for tonight. I wasn’t going to clam up and become a little hermit. Oh no. But I wasn’t going to attempt to drink away my sorrows either. I figured I could hit up Spin again. If it got too boring, there we’re plenty of other places to choose from. With two nights of my life planned out I stopped myself before I started planning the rest of the week or even month. Being spontaneous was much more fun. With no job and no girlfriend, I decided to get back on the computer, maybe get started working on another song since the local bars had already heard the few tracks I had written a few too many times. I kept my hands on the keys but not the slightest idea where to start. After ten mintues of nothing I gave up. My eyes darted over to the paper that had Spencer’s info scribbled on it. I picked it up and grabbed the house phone out of the cradle. I laughed at myself. I always wondered why I bothered even having a landline when the only number I gave out was my cell. I kept smiling as I dialed her number.
"Hello?"
"Hey. It’s Ashley, again." I giggled. She did too.
"Hey! Is this your house number?"
"Yeah but you’re better off using my cell: 384-4111."
"Awesome. So what’s up?"
"I figured that maybe tomorrow we could grab a bite to eat then I could show you my version of L.A. nightlife."
"Definitely. What did you want to eat?"
"Your choice. I know a great pizza place."
"You read my mind. So you wanted to drive?"
"It’s the least I can do…but I’ll need directions. I was kind of out when Aiden brought me over." She laughed.
"No problem. Just give me a call tomorrow when you’re heading out and I’ll let you know."
"Okey dokey! Do you want me to leave around 8 then we can go from there?"
"Sounds like a plan. Can’t wait!"
"Me either! Talk to you tomorrow!"
"Bye!"
