North of Somewhere: All Grown Up – (Chapter: Ready Or Not…)

“Then how will you know when you’re ready?”

“I don’t know. Maybe one day I’ll just wake up and feel ready, who knows?”

“So I guess I’m supposed to sit around waiting for that day?”

“We’re married now, Spence. And it’s supposed to be forever. Are you saying that if I’m not ready to have children with you it’s over?”

Spencer said nothing, the tear that ran down her face did all the talking, giving Ashley her answer.

“Wow, Spencer. Wow,” Ashley replied, shooting up from the bed and grabbing her cell phone. She locked herself in the bathroom. She would’ve left but her lack of clothing prevented that exit.

Spencer berated herself silently as she lay horizontally on the large bed. Of course, she wouldn’t leave Ashley. That wasn’t even an option. But for some reason she needed to show Ashley how much she hurt her and threatening her with abandonment was the first thing that came to her head. She knew it was wrong, and beyond that it was something the old version of herself would’ve done.

She could hear the murmur of Ashley’s voice coming through the bathroom door and she was almost positive Aiden was on the other line. Ashley’s voice rose several octaves as the conversation went on and with every word, Spencer’s regret only grew worse.

She got up the courage to pick herself up, walk the few feet, and knock on the door.

    “Ash…”

The door flew open, surprising Spencer.

“Hold on,” Ashley said to the person on the other line, “what is it, Spencer?”

“I’m sorry. Can we talk about this?”

    “I’m on the phone.”

“Ok, well when you’re done can we…”

    “I don’t know.”

“Well, who are you talking to?”

    “Arthur.”

“You’re talking to my dad?” Spencer asked, her jaw dropping.

“Yeah, so excuse me,” Ashley said, closing the door again.

Spencer didn’t feel Ashley slide in bed until hours later. The blonde had decided that a nap was her only defense against the millions of thoughts running through her head. It wasn’t that she minded Ashley having a relationship with her father. But the fact that they would talk about her made her uneasy. Did Ashley tell him everything that was said? Had they laughed at her immaturity? Spencer took a deep breath, attempting for the hundredth time to clear her head.

Then she felt Ashley’s hand slide around her waist and suddenly the brunette’s warm body was against her naked back. The chills were undeniable. It was impossible for Ashley to touch her without those familiar chills creeping up inside her.

    “Spencer, are you awake?”

The blonde nodded, too distracted to form words.

    “I love you.”

Spencer turned to face her, “I love you too.”

She couldn’t see clearly now that darkness had settled over the room, but she could tell Ashley was smiling.

“What are we going to do?”

“I’m going to wait until you’re ready. And just hope that by the time you decide it’s time, I’m not too old to have kids.”

Ashley laughed, “I’m not talking any longer than a year Spencer. We have time.”

    “I know.”

    “Your dad is amazing.”

    “You mean your dad?”

“Are you jealous?” Ashley asked simply, running her fingers down the expanse of Spencer’s exposed back.

“I’m trying not to be. It’s just a little weird right now.”

“That makes sense. And look, I’m not trying to steal the guy away from you or anything. He’s just really good to talk to about stuff.”

“I know, and it’s fine. I want you two to be close.”

    “Good.”

    “Good.”

    “So you and I…we’re ok?”

“We were always ok. I was just…I was being stupid. And I’m so sorry.”

“It’s fine. I know how you are when you want something.”

    “How am I?”

“Fucking relentless. You’ve always been that way.”

    “Well, you obviously like it.”

    “I never said I didn’t.”

Ashley’s cell rang from across the room and she jumped up to retrieve it, glancing at the caller ID before answering. When she saw the name of the caller appear on the screen she almost dropped the phone in surprise.

    1. That was such a low blow for Spencer to threaten to end the relationship if Ash concede to having a baby right away. Thankfully Arthur made things okay again when Ashley talked to him. Of course, now you leave us with a huge cliffhanger. Who’s on the phone? I’m really gonna miss this story when it’s over but I can’t wait to see what you come up with next.

    2. Did you have to write so much drama on their honeymoon? Of course, you did, you’re a writer! LOL! Ashley can be a pain in the ass…she didn’t have to snap so harshly when Spencer mentioned children and according to her response she definitely isn’t ready for children because she herself still acts like a child, they both do. You’re a magnificently talented writer and I’m in agreement with yahtzeeguru, you should do a sequel with them starting a family or after they already have children. Amazing story and I love it! PMS

    3. noooooooooooooo why must you end it why *flails around like an idiot.* no no no. you had better start a new fic after or else I will call Paris, Lindsey and brittney to come get drunk and lick your face oh yeah im crazy and i got them on speed dial.

    4. so i’m not gonna lie, i’m pretty damn sad that there is only one more chapter left of this incredible story! but i’ll be happy if you start another one, you’re such an awesome writer, you’re style is amazing!

    5. I can’t believe your going to end one of my fav stories. sad times. I don’t see how you can end this story like that. please don’t end it on a cliff hanger. this story has sooooooo many different possibilities for it still.

    6. i agree with dallas1111…they are both still so immature and new to this marriage thing…they should wait to bring a child into it…if they are not ready…this child could make more of a strain…so..kudos to ashley for wanting to wait..and to arthur who thankfully, straightened out the problem…..now, who could be on the phone….i wonder…Awesome post..can’t wait to read more..pms
